University of South Carolina Early Action for Fall 2024

Ours said nothing about merit. Just direct it us to portal and a personalized page.

Actually found the letter. Accepted to Darla Moore Pre-IB. Merit of at least 90K in 4 years. More detail merit scholarship in March.

Our S24 OOS ¶ was accepted and it showed in state tuition which of course is a big incentive/scholarship. It’s definitely high on his list, but also received a few other acceptances this week - some in budget and some out of budget (Hopkins).

Was she applying to a highly competitive major?

I don’t think so, Biology. She was also invited to apply to Honors so it’s a bit of a sting. 4.0uw, top 1%, 32 ACT, 4 sport varsity athlete, 2-time state champion, lifelong club player, president of club, team captain, tons of other EC’s etc. Scratching our heads. We really liked the campus.

Congrats and best of luck to you all!

So strange we didn’t get merit . We are top 6% of class, high stats , tons of EC , triple sport athlete etc
Makes zero sense !

I_tolen are you saying the letter was in a different spot? We opened the portal
it said there is a decision. It took us to a letter that said congrats you are accepted. No mention of merit. Is there another spot to look?

What major did your child apply to? I’m holding out hope that maybe not all majors have figured out merit yet. Seems like all business majors had merit mentioned in their acceptance letters. My daughter was accepted to Education and no merit info was included in her letter. The NPC showed that she would get some merit based on her grades and TO. Her best friend who applied business got “equal to in state tuition” included in her letter.

Congratulations to your son on fantastic acceptances! My S24 also accepted to all of these plus FSU in state and TCU with Deans scholarship. Still waiting on UF. Truly have no idea how he will choose. A good problem!

My d23 was accepted EA last year with no mention of any merit in her acceptance letter. I remember being a little bit surprised since her stats seemed to qualify her for one of their merit awards based on their chart. Then in March she received an updated letter in her portal listing her merit award. Don’t lose hope!

Thank you! This is what I’m hoping for. This could be a real contender for her and will need some merit to keep it on her list. Did your daughter decide to attend SC? How does she like it?

OOS acceptance.
34 ACT
4.0 UW
Four varsity sports. Tons of EC and community service hours.
Pre-IB Darla Moore with in-state tuition award.
Accepted with scholarship at TCU, Clemson, Alabama, Arizona State, Arizona. Rejected at Stanford.
Congrats to everyone who was accepted- we loved SC on our recent campus visit.

Hi! we are psychology and really high stats. Has me curious !

She decided to attend a different school, but two of her close friends go to UofSC and they both love it!

DS accepted so far to UofSC, Florida St. (in-state), and Indiana. Deferred at Georgia. Business major.

Waiting on several others. With Bright Futures and in at Florida St as well as IU Kelley, UofSC is probably not a top option. Still I think it’s a great school and congrats to all those accepted, and good luck to the deferred!

All merit is officially released in March. Some letters state some don’t. My guess is when a bunch of people decline their admits the merit gets redistributed.

No way, no how am I paying 33k a year in tuition alone for USC. So we’ll likely decline here if they don’t give at least 15k a year. We already have an instate offer for another OOS school that is ranked lower. Kid is going into a discipline that needs a MS anyway.

That will still leave us at 34k a year at USC when we add room and board.

The other school is around 19k all in.

140k vs 76k that leaves an extra 64k to pay for her masters. Frankly, In my opinion unless you’re in the top 25 or 30 undergrad schools there is much better value elsewhere.

Still waiting on our instate decisions(late Jan) and a few others in the next few weeks.
