With EA, the day of the decisions coming out people who went from submitted to blank were deferred. Those that stayed were admitted. I don’t believe Regular decision comes out for another couple of months (not positive of the date) so it may not mean anything.
Son is OOS.
Yes he was expecting a Feb / March decision. Thank you
Hey! Just wanted to let you know that your son should be very proud of his accomplishment. I used to work in the admissions department for SCHC, and I can attest that the program consistently ranks among the best in the country—right there with Penn State Schreyer and Georgia Honors. Congrats—I hope your son considers it.
Hi! I got in early in state to Darla Moore international business (heard back Nov 22). A few people I know heard back about honors yesterday and I’m wondering if that means I have a lesser chance being in the February group. I also am wondering if putting my enrollment deposit down will have any effect. I have to put it down before Jan 15 for housing application but I don’t want to put it down and have admissions see it as me being “okay” without getting into the honors college. I just want to know my realistic chances of honors at this point being in the February batch. I am in in state, 5.15 weighted gpa, top 3% of class with 300 class size, stellar essays, well rounded extracurriculars, and already accepted to Darla Moore with scholarship awards.
Sound pretty likely. ![]()
How many Top Scholars invitations get sent and what is the acceptance rate from those? My son is interested in the 7 year program and I am an Alumni from USC not sure if that helps ![]()
I heard they selected 10 students from 23/24 batch.
From the website (for OOS).
The Stamps, McNair and Horseshoe Scholars Awards are the most prestigious awards offered by the university to nonresident students. Forty-five students with strong academic records and leadership qualities are offered a Top Scholar award each year. Five will be named Stamps Scholars, 20 will be named McNair Scholars, and up to 20 will be named Horseshoe Scholars. Candidates for these awards will be invited to participate in a mandatory interview and an in-person Top Scholar Weekend. Last year, nonresident Top Scholars had an average SAT score of 1550 (ACT score of 35) and an average high school GPA of 4.8 and were in the top 1% of their high school class, on average. Recipients qualify for the in-state tuition rate.
Sounds like up to 45 get awarded.
Thank you Hammer for sharing the details. Well sound like high bar averages - lets see how it goes.
I am curious on how they do it. Do they just pick 45 people or do they pick say 60 and pick from them? If someone who gets offered top scholar decides not to enroll, is their spot offered to someone else?
My understanding they pick 45 only and each one is assured some kind of scholarship, the 5 stamps then 20 MacNair and 20 horseshoe, interview decides who is what. And if some one decides not to take the top awards the lower kids will be moved up. I don’t think they offer any one out of 45 for the spots that are not taken
I think this is correct. They do not redistribute the scholarship if someone offered it does not attend.
Curious if anyone else received increased or new merit award in March, after committing in December or January.
anyone know if the Honors College is filled with only EA applicants? My student was deferred and I am thinking that means ‘no’ to the Honors College.
My daughter got McNair, she still had an out of pocket cost of $8500 per year. It was full tuition plus $11K toward room and board and fees.
How many of the 45 scholars end up in the 10 BSMD program? Does anyone know how BSMD selection works?
That’s pretty good. OOS? Plus the $12k in enrichment funds. can that be used for anything?
Interesting that HC first round came out, and D25 was not in the batch. She was accepted OOS, but didn’t get any merit. I am not sure if that means she is not going to make the cut for merit or HC. Her ACT is 33, maybe it’s not high enough to catch attention. Starting to wonder now. Any ideas on likelihood of her making the next batch?
What is D25? Ours got no merit either or honors and has other schools who gave her ranging from $86k - $156k in merit over 4 years plus honors colleges. Though they are not as big a USC, just really concerned that she won’t receive anything in merit and honors college might be off the table.
D25 is Daughter class of 25 from what I’ve seen in various places. Daughter has 3 acceptances at her safeties and one offered merit and honors college. Was hoping to receive same from here to keep costs reasonable
