Congrats to all accepted students!
Did they release all in-state decisions yesterday or is it done in waves?
Last year, the Friday before Thanksgiving some āhigh statā in-state students found out early. The majority of in-state found out December 15th like OOS. My son last year didnāt find out until December 15th and he had higher stats than my daughter that got in yesterday. My daughter knows 3 people from her HS that didnāt hear anything yesterday so itās not all in-state.
Yes, same experience here (this year). Several of my daughterās friends havenāt heard anything yet. Intrigued by the process.
My daughter is a freshman in the honors program and a nursing major - which means she is part of the first wave of honors students moving to the new advising system. I will say for her it has been a good experience. Her new advisor is in the College of Nursing but also had been an advisor for Honors in the past so sheās gotten the best of both worlds. She really is enjoying college now after having settled in. She loves all of her hall mates and has made friends both within and outside of honors and nursing.
Registration for the spring in nursing was tough. She didnāt get two of the classes she wanted (needs to complete for nursing by next year) but was able to substitute with 2 electives that she needs for honors. She was able to talk with her advisor both before and during the registration period and feels good with the choices she made.
Good luck to all of you!
Instate EA ACCEPTED with scholarship (award announced mid-march) Computer Science
UW GPA 3.96/W GPA 4.96, rank top 14%, ACT 28, 6 AP/3 DUAL ENROLLMENT
My son is a freshman business major in the Honors College and also had a great advising experience under the new system. He had no trouble getting all of the business classes he wanted both semesters so far.
Hi. Just wondering if any knows once accepted how easy it would be to switch majors? My daughter is having second thoughts on what school she applied to.
Depends on the major. Switching into nursing or the business school = way difficult. Switching into several majors in the College of Arts & Sciences = not a problem.
My daughter was a high state kid accepted in December of 2021 and originally wanted computer science. Decided she wanted to do management with analytics Concentration at Darla Moore in early January 2022. We were told she could not change to that major until all decisions and acceptances had come out to see if there was room. I am confident she would have been accepted if that was her original choice so changing majors to certain highly desired majors is not super easy by any means (at least prior to freshman year). In the end she went to UF.
My son switched from engineering to business after committing. He was in Honors College so not sure if that was a factor in how easy it was.
Thank you!
My daughter switched before she committed. She went from Political Science to Business once she realized how amazing the International Business program is. However, she had also been accepted into the honors college, which I believe provides more flexibility.
Is she in the International Business program now? If so, how does she like it?
She is a freshman, so most of her classes have been more ācoreā business classes (acct, econ, stats, calc, etc), but she is so excited about the program in general. In International Business you have to declare a second business major, so basically you end up with a double major. She is not sure what she wants her 2nd major to be yet, because there are several she is interested in. They are also required to study abroad the spring semester of her junior year. We honestly did not realize how prestigious the program was until we went to admitted student day, and they completely sold her on it. We had the Clemson admitted student day the literal day before U of SC, but their business school does not compare. After she thought about it for a week or so, we actually cancelled our admitted student tours for Penn State, Villanova, and Lehigh because U of SC just made so much sense. I will say she was still nervous about her decision throughout the summer, but she absolutely loves it there now. She told me like 100 times over Thanksgiving break how much she loves her school, and she is suddenly really into football⦠lol
Thanks for responding. Iām glad your daughter is enjoying it; thatās good to hear! USC is a close second to his top choice and heās very interested in the IB program at Darla Moore.
Only a couple of weeks (hopefully) before he hears. He also applied to the Honors college, not sure when that notification goes out.
Do you mind sharing what were stats were that got her into honors? I know the published ranges; I just like hearing anecdotal stats. Thanks!
She went to a really competitive private school. They donāt do rank (outside of 1st and 2nd), but we know she was in the top 10%. They also donāt do weighted GPAs, so the highest you can get is a 4.0, which is what she had (SC has a way to calculate what the weighted realistically would be based on the classes offered and reputation of school so donāt get too hung up on the GPA). SAT was over 1400 but I canāt remember what the super score was. I think they really do look at the whole picture though including the essays. All scholar athlete and played a varsity sport all 4 years, team captain her senior year, made regionals all 4 years, state 3 out of 4 (not playing her sport in college). All honors classes or APs and over 300 hours of community service. Tons of other school related clubs or extracurriculars with leadership positions. She did not receive her acceptance to honors until Feb.
Well clearly well deserved Thank you for the insight.
Has anyone heard any updates on the OOS EA release date? Iām hoping itās on the 13th given the 15th is a Monday.
I think they sent an email a day or two before last year. Maybe someone from last year can confirm. But, Iām hoping for the 13th also. UGA todayā¦stressful week!
