University of Tennessee Early Action Class of 2030 Official Thread

My son was hounded to apply for a couple of honors programs but when he researched them it turns out that very, very few slots are awarded OOS. It wasn’t worth the time to apply.

This is true that they prioritize in state. I have older kids and they used to not emphasize that so much and it did used to bother me (as we border GA and NC that do). An older son was a Haslam scholar and his cohort was about 50/50 IS/OOS and I think last years cohort was just 1 OOS and 14 IS. That has definitely been a change and your son made a reasonable choice not to spend his time there.

This is the same call my son made. The chance of being the 1 student picked out of like 2,000 OOS seemed pretty slim so he skipped Haslam as well. Interesting it used to be 100 kids, I wonder if funding of the program has changed. Good luck to your kiddo!

And to yours!

Hounded is an understatement. D26 was getting emails daily and sometimes twice a day.

Shoot ya’ll. In my head I was thinkin OOS decisions were released tonight for UTK. Saw on another thread, not until Monday 12/15. Is that correct? Does anyone have confirmation on the exact day. I think I’m getting all the schools mixed up at this point, lol.

Yes, Monday!

UTK for OOS is Monday. They announced it on IG a couple of weeks ago.

Yes, our kids were definitely placed on a post application customer success cadence of emails that was a bit extreme. They may have even been placed on more than one cadence based on stats. Who knows. But it definitely was a lot!

Does anyone know what time decisions are released tomorrow?

It was 7 PM EST for in-state last week. Assuming same for OOS

Yes 7pm EST

Are there any portal tells?

Doesn’t seem to be. Two years ago, there was a hiccup where some families saw a light grey confetti background early and then it disappeared, they probably fixed that. :grimacing: on the first page(Next Steps) my kiddo has like a very light graphic behind his “your counselor” section with vol highlights like Hodges library, boats in the river, etc but not vol confetti, so not a tell. Are you seeing the same thing? Holding my breath until 7pm, this is the one my son will be crushed on if he doesn’t get it. He grew up an OOS vol and has ridden that fandom roller coaster his whole life, lol. It’s not an easy ride, they keep you on your toes, but it sure is fun.

Anyone’s kid’s recalculated UTK gpa actually go down? Daughter’s weighted went from a 4.4 to a 4.1. Her school does not have AP classes, so she is in all honors. Every school claims they allow for this, but I can’t help but think that’s why it went down. (She does not have any honors “fluff”. grades. Just one or two typical electives per year in theatre, choir or art.) It makes me so nervous for today!!

My daughter’s went down slightly because honors accounting is not counted as a core class… which is ridiculous because she took it because it will be important for her major.

Yes, from 4.6 to 4.36. UTK only gives an extra .5 for honors and 1.0 for AP/IB I believe. But still I’d imagine they’re being evaluated in the context of other applicants from their HS so it should all shake out.
