Still have awaiting decision here…. Gone for anyone else?

You are welcome! I think the wording of it is confusing.

But my dd was accepted in state last week and that is how hers looks and has always looked (and believe me I questioned it and checked it a few times )

Thanks for the help on GPA. I see it was recalculated a lot higher - from 4.38 to 4.82. I wonder if some are really, really high.

I have seen some reported really high but I wouldn’t worry about others being higher. I don’t have anything official but I’ve had kids applying to UTK for many years and I don’t know why but I “feel” like they don’t really use it beyond a point. Like over a certain point it is a wash and they aren’t going to put someone with a 5.0 above someone with a 4.5 without digging deeper into that. My DD had something like a 4.57 and I feel like I saw lots reported higher than hers but she got into chancellors honors and some with higher GPAs did not.

So I think they want to see it over a point to cut off for scholarships and honors and other things but I think over a certain value it is probably a wash. Lots of kids in TN do early college programs where they go a couple years of dual enrollment and they get really high weighted GPAs but some of the best private schools do APs instead and the numbers don’t add up so high. So I don’t think they rank by super high GPAs.

All that to say don’t worry if you see some people saying they have 4.9s or whatever and your kid has 4.4. I don’t think they are really comparing it that way. I do think they use test scores to flesh that out, for better or for worse.

Yes, I remember reading there is some kind of internal cutoff index for admissions to Engineering, so there are probably just some internal bars to clear. It actually speaks really well of UT to do this, basically assessing how you did in the suite of classes that matters to them. They are the only school I see that’s doing this.

We are also OOS and no recalculated GPA has ever shown in the portal! Just the GPA from transcript.

What are your kids stats

Won’t give specifics, but I’d say solid chance of admission to UTK overall but applying to nursing and would be a reach for that major. So no idea what the blank status could indicate.

Ours still says awaiting decision

Same here: Portal change - “Your Status” used to say awaiting decision, now it is blank.

Can you share stats?

Last Monday while awaiting in state decisions my DD’s portal briefly went blank and then back to awaiting decision before being accepted at 7:00. I think that was just part of being updated behind the scenes.

I see we’ve dropped into Portal Astrology territory.

I phoned the 1-900 # and spoke to Ms. Cleo… she was rather vague but insisted I consult the Magic Eight Ball;

Can you define “briefly? :joy:

lol. I can’t. I feel like I looked and it was blank and I looked later and it was back to “awaiting decision”. How much time lapsed is anyone’s guess.

And really it made me feel like a crazy person to even be looking at all. We have guaranteed admission in state. There was nothing to worry about. Why does this stuff make me crazy enough to even look when the outcome is known?

Good luck to everyone. I know 7:00 feels a long time away.

A lot of deferrals being reported on Facebook and Reddit. Seems strange since it’s so early still.

where on facebook and reddit is this chatter? TIA

Can’t find the Reddit chat.
