University of Tennessee Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

We applied to volunteer impact program and got an email that our application is being reviewed and will let us know by April. Any tea leaves to read with this?

I don’t think so. People in previous have got that and got rejected.

Ok that’s kind of what I thought but good to get confirmation

The “Calculated Self-Reported Core GPA” has a number that has been there for a while. This is nothing new.

The “Calculated UT Core GPA (official GPA)**:” is blank for everyone because if you read below that, it says “UT will calculate your final UT Core GPA after your eighth semester grades are reported, and will appear after an offer of admission has been made.”

From their website re Core GPA:

UT calculates a weighted core GPA based on your grades in the courses listed below. Completion of all sixteen core courses is not required for admission but strongly encouraged.

In the core academic subjects, your GPA will be weighted by UT to reflect honors courses (0.5 quality points added), Advanced Placement (AP), Cambridge AS and A Level, International Baccalaureate (IB), and dual enrollment courses (1.0 quality points added). UT calculates your GPA on a 4-point scale. UT will use unweighted high school course grades as the basis for adding these weightings for the UT core GPA calculation. If you attend a high school that does not weight courses, UT will also not weight them. However, the academic rigor of your curriculum is important and will be valued by our admissions review team.

Core Academic Subjects

  • 4 English
  • 4 Math (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, statistics, or other advanced math)
  • 3 Science (biology, chemistry, physics, or other science)
  • 1 American history
  • 1 European history, world history, or world geography
  • 2 Single foreign language (or ASL)
  • 1 Visual or performing arts

I don’t know if that is necessarily true. Mine saw his recalculated UTK GPA in his portal about two weeks after he submitted everything and was told to look for it by others who had applied. Seems most should be able to see it.

My daughter is the same, for a while now.

I don’t have to offer anything. You’re the one that’s calling every admissions office in the country and chiming in about others misfortune because they don’t have something on their profile.

Thank you. I am SUPER proud of my mom. I just want to do the same for her ya know. And I know she wants me to be happy
and that is what matters. Just with a lot of EA decisions coming out at this time, I was kinda hoping to run to her with a letter of one of my top choices. We had made a list together and it seemed SOOO far away when this time would come. I just wanted to give her a letter. Dont get me wrong - super grateful for what I have. TBH UGA was my reach school - I was honored they took the time to even shoot me a rejection letter  I knew I wouldnt get in. But it was fun. I have a job and work as much as I can to help out. I have a jar called “crazy dreams” so I saved for the application in that. Totally worth it to wonder for a bit

Mine has always been there I think
? uh oh

I am sorry about your husband, and more sorry I did not lead with that in my first reply. I am sure your kids are amazed by you every day just like I am w/my mom

same
thoughts on adding 7th semester scores ?.. do you have to add them all or just the core ones that will help GPA? TIA

We aren’t doing anything new on my daughter’s portal for now. I think someone earlier confirmed that my “theory” was not really a theory, after all. The parent who first noticed the recalculated GPA was actually just seeing the original SRAR gpa for the first time. Some people do have an option to update SRAR, but we don’t see that option in our portal at the moment. I think most everyone has a blank space next to Calculated UT Core GPA because they go on to explain that it will be updated later with year-end grades. I hope this information is helpful and sorry if I caused anxiety regarding the gpa in the portal. This whole process is pretty wild. I’m still mystified about how different every portal, system, etc is for each college. Good luck to your kiddo!!

It looks like decisions should be on Tuesday starting a 7pm Eastern. That is what they have done in previous years, and after that, we are starting to get into a late December time-frame, not mid-December.

Are you OOS too? My son loves this campus this best! Hoping we get a good merit offer :crossed_fingers:

Is it a holistic review for EA or just stats?

Was that date posted somewhere by the university? It was my guess on when they might release, but I haven’t seen it announced anywhere official.

That is not offical but an educated guess. They normally post on their social media the day before, so it will probably be confirmed tomorrow.
