University of Utah Class of 2029 Official Thread

This is the official discussion thread for University of Utah Class of 2029 applicants. Ask your questions and connect with fellow applicants.

I believe early action comes out on January 15th. I just saw a Facebook reel of the admissions staff stuffing large envelopes.

Last year they posted decisions on the portal on Thursday January 11th… is there any chance that they will drop this week?

My son is waiting on Utah as well. They did say on IG yesterday that it would be next week, so maybe one or two days early, but I doubt as early as Jan 11.

It was confirmed today via IG that decisions will be released on Monday (Jan 13).

Son was admitted yesterday for CS with WUE scholarship. Does anyone know if the $130 housing application fee is refundable?

I just wanted to tell you that my son is a sophomore in the CS program and loooooooooooooves it.

In past years, the application fee has not been refundable, but any deposit during selection is refundable until May 1. Losing the deposit is unfortunately a risk you take, since housing is in short supply and the LLC/honors housing is better than the standard options that are available later on. If you are seriously considering Utah then it may be best to go to one of the admitted students day in March to check it out. It doesn’t matter when you apply, so long as it is before April 1 (this date has been even earlier in past years, at least this year you should know what other options you have by then).

S25 has been admitted and paid $300 enrollment and $130 housing deposits. He will be majoring in Metallurgical Engineering. He will get in-state tuition, since I am a veteran. He will find out about the merit scholarships in the next month or so. He will also be applying for department scholarships.

My daughter was admitted with WUE scholarship and seeking more information to get in-state tuition since my husband is a disabled veteran. Residency emailed me back, may enroll first, and apply the form. Campus housing is not counted towards establishing residency for tuition purposes. Could you share more details about your Military Service Exception process?

Have you read this (in particular page 11)?

I’m not sure what you mean by “Campus housing is not counted towards establishing residency for tuition purposes”. Residency based on 365 days of physical presence requires proof you are in the state (bank records, pay slips, attending class), not just having an address (and relinquishing domiciliary ties). But that’s nothing to do with the military exception.

From Website, Veterans Residency Exceptions admissions #3 “Objective evidence of intent to establish residency” is required. I’m trying to figure out how to meet one of 6 options(voter card, driver license…), unsure if a campus housing address works for a driver’s license and whether everything can be completed in time to qualify for in-state tuition.

Yes you can use a campus address for voter registration and drivers license (my D did that). You have to do the application by July 1 but the evidence supplement deadline is early September. So I believe you just go to do the voter registration and drivers license change (in person) when you arrive in Utah for the first day of term. Take your housing agreement with you.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I thought the campus housing address is temporary and may not be allowed for use. Thank you!

The veteran dependent is much better than establishing residency the regular way, where the student can only leave the state for 28 days freshman year.
