University of Utah Early Action Fall 2024

For OOSers there are 2 popular ways to get instate tuition. First, if either parent was active military Utah grants instate immediately. Second, if the student stays in the state of Utah all but 29 days in a year, registers to vote in Utah, obtains a Utah DL, and is not claimed as a dependent on their parents taxes, then they can petition for instate tuition.

Here is the current Cost of Attendance. Big savings!

My D was also able to keep her merit scholarship (at the lower instate amount) when she switched to instate tuition.

Is there any indication in the Utah application portal indicating an application is accepted for Early Action? D24 got the application in on the 1st, but the portal states all pieces were complete on the 5th and 6th with no indication that it will be considered for Early Action. Is there something we can look for to confirm one way or the other? TIA.

I had mine take a look- it doesn’t say “early action” but it does tell you when they’ll get a decision. So if it says January 15th it’s clear that they are in the EA group.

Hoping the U releases decisions a few days earlier than the 15th, which is MLK day so their office is likely closed. Last year, they sent out decisions on the 12th, which was earlier than originally communicated. So eager!

Will decisions next week include WUE/merit and Honors or just admissions and major?

Last year the merit (and WUE) notifications were given at the start of February (2 weeks after the admissions decision), and if you didn’t get anything, you didn’t receive a notification, which led to some confusion. But Honors College admission is part of the initial decision.

I was just coming here to update that! They’d always indicated the 15th so hopefully this is right! My kid just needs to know from his #1!

Good luck tomorrow!

Excited, but my kiddo isn’t feeling well (maybe flu?) which is a bit of a bummer. Good luck to everyone!

I hope your kiddo feels better soon!

Thank you! This is the only decision she really cares about, so I hope she rallies and is awake enough to really enjoy it. Will post here promptly!!

Reading earlier, it seems merit $ won’t come with acceptance today, right?

No idea. It sounds like they change things up every year.

Dates change frequently, but financial aid is a separate department from admissions, so the two don’t coordinate their release schedule. Back in 2021 (IIRC) there was a major change in funding and the financial aid department didn’t decide on the restructured merit offers until mid-late March. But other than that the merit announcement has come in late Jan/early Feb (my D18 attended the U and S23 seriously considered it).

4:00 PM MT today for decisions.

My son is currently a freshman in a single at Sage Point. When we applied there were actually a lot of single options available there. Overall he has really liked being in a single but probably would have preferred Kahlert due to the location, especially now that it’s so cold.

Same - while I know he’ll be happy at his second choice, this is by FAR the one to my son.
