University of Washington Class of 2028 Waitlist

out of state and didn’t get the email

Also OOS and did not get email.

They probably met their quota of the number of OOS, around 3/4 of the class which is around 5200 students, in the incoming class. They are probably still trying to figure out the OOS student situation hence not closing the waitlist completely yet.

We didn’t get email out of state .

Appeal. It’s worth it.

We heard many students get in the last couple years on appeal especially with the 3.9+ and a bunch of APs. The admissions process weighs heavily on first-generation now, about 1/3 of in-state spots not requiring those near-perfect GPA (shown in the stats for the past few years). It seems to get cleaned up on appeal for those top students though. Most students we know the past couple of years heard back on the appeal within a week or so. You get to provide an updated transcript including senior year grades, so if your son maintained straight A’s that will help. Include some new information that was not included on the original application. A challenge your son faced that was not discussed, for example.

He should get in (my positive thinking anyway!). Keep the chat posted. Best of luck!

I just submitted my appeal as a WA resident with a 3.93 gpa that was waitlisted, then rejected. i’m hoping to hear back in a week, because otherwise i’ll be attending community college and then hoping to transfer in. is there any confirmed statistic about my chances of being able to transfer from a seattle cc?

You should have a good shot on appeal if you had solid course rigor/AP’s in that 3.93 GPA (I’m guessing the 3.93 is unweighted). Also, important to discuss some new information/challenges that were not included on your original application. Best of luck!

And yes, your best chance to transfer into UW is from a WA community college. The acceptance rate is 70%+ from WA community colleges, while it’s only in the 25% range when attempting to transfer from all other colleges/universities (e.g. from WWU, Oregon, WSU, or UC schools for example).

update: just double-checked the UW transfer acceptance rates (for 2023). It was 73% for WA CC’s, and only 22% for all other colleges.

Last year * 2023: Total 2,985 of the 4,122 students on the waitlist were offered admission (72%) - what percentage do you guess for 2024??

for in state I would guess less than 10%… not sure about out of state

If your son decided to appeal, I sure hope he gets some (well overdue) great news this week!

Does anyone know how long it has been taking to hear back from an appeal?

It seemed to be within a week or so the past couple years.

wait continues till Aug 1st…

hoping tomorrow will be the day i hear back :crossed_fingers:t2: been about 10 days since i submitted my appeal sooo…

Are there any OOS freshman wait listers who are still holding out hope?

My kid is still on the waitlist, but I just said to them, “Methinks you are not getting off the UDub waitlist at this point.” They replied, “Methinks I don’t care.” So not really holding out hope at this point.

Not sure if it was a wave or not, but I got off today in the morning (10:30 PST)!

My son got off too. Wishing everyone waiting the best of luck. I can understand how painful it has been this year to get off waiting lists.

My son was also accepted off the waitlist. I wish everyone still waiting the best of luck. I can empathize with how agonizing and stressful it has been this year to be on college waitlists.

It’s been horrible - these waitlists and how it is so down to the wire. Are you (Murali and Rom) OOS or in state? Majors? thanks-
