Congrats to your son on Cal and Irvine - and SB and SLO! Is he choosing Irvine over Cal? Irvine has really made strides since I applied to college. I guess all the UC’s are just a different ball game now.
He chose Cal. He really wanted to try someplace new and Irvine is only an hour from us. Cal is also the #1 public school in the country for his intended major and #6 out of public and private schools for his major, and job placement out of that major is really amazing. And he likes having a football team and a basketball team and big sports to cheer for. We also have a lot of family near Cal, and that was important to him.
The UCs are definitely a different ballgame than when I went to UCLA in the 90s. Very competitive.
What a day it was! S24 was accepted in the morning and by evening changed his LinkedIn to UW. It was his top choice and the only school he visited! The only one.
He knew what he wanted. We are in CA and he did get into UCs, but he never wanted to go. All the best to those waiting still. I would take what the email said at face value exactly, if it’s still your top choice stay on the WL… It’s not closed until they say it’s closed.
So great to hear some dreams are coming true this week!
We also know there are a lot of in-state kids reading some of this with pain… we’re pulling for you too! Hopefully more good news ahead.
D24 got email last week and just checked her portal. She got off waitlist, Out of state, major is communications.
i guess no new info on uw wl for fall2024 (class of 2028)
The deadline to accept for the first wave of waitlists is tomorrow, June 28. So maybe after tomorrow they will let more off depending on how many committed.
Yes - I like this. Let’s hope and pray.
ty for the June28 info
My son got an email yesterday saying the waitlist was closed and they were unable to offer him admission for fall quarter.
I am an in-state student and I received the same email. I’m curious if any in-state waitlists were taken; based on the info available-- it doesn’t sound like it
I’m sorry to hear that. Are y’all also in-state?
We are in state. It is super disappointing given that my son had one “B” so had a 3.96 UW GPA Plus 9 APs 5 of which he had already passed tests with 3s and 4s and incredible ECs leadership and volunteer work. They let in so many ( at least 7!!!) much less qualified kids from his high school. Multiple kids in the 3.5-3.7 range with 1-3 APs and no passed tests and lack of ECs. It makes no sense at all.
We are in the same boat and I share your disapointment. 3.97, AP’s, in-state etc. We couldn’t help but be hopeful the waitlist would work out even though we knew it was a longshot. Waiting has been hard though so I am glad that part is over.
what majors did you apply for?
Sorry that the waitlist closed. Doesn’t seem they took as many as last year.
Did anyone OOS get the same email, sounds like so far just in-state?
We are out of state and kid said they didn’t get the email.
Did your kid stay on the WL after the last email? If I remember they committed to Cal.
They did commit to Cal and are very excited about it (and my budget is excited also). But they remained on the UDub waitlist after the last email.
