my friends last year didn’t get off the udub wl until late june and some got off in july so I’m not expecting much noise until then. That was also when the waitlist started in may. The only movement so far I know of is the engineering majors back in April which happened to one of my friends.
this was all in state, idk about oos
It’s quite possible they got enough of a response to their original offers of admissions to not need to go to the waitlist except for the small group that got off for Engineering in early April.
DS thought UDub was his first choice and was waitlisted. Monday night he told me getting waitlisted by UDUb was the best thing to happen because it forced him to explore his other options, which he would not have done if UDub admitted him in March. He’s committed to Berkeley now.
I think with the waitlists - and my kid was on three, got off two last week, still waiting on UDub - you have to explore and fall in love with an option that is a sure thing. Then, if you get off the waitlist, you weigh the pros and cons and make a decision.
I hope they send a note letting us know they closed the waitlist if they are not planning on taking anymore students! Being in limbo is so hard.
UW will send an email when it officially closes.
It’s less likely to get off at this point, but well-worth the wait if it’s a top choice, especially for those in-state. If you don’t qualify for need-based financial aid, it’s tough to argue the value. $13k in-state tuition to UW vs. $40k tuition range for many competitive out of state / UC schools. I understand why people wait it out!
This was a big factor in his decision to choose Berkeley. We are in state.
My OOS daughter got off the waiting list today. She’s been logging into the admission portal, and her Admission application status changed today. The congratulatory admitted note states that a packet has been mailed, and she has until June 28 to confirm enrollment.
She applied for Business Admin but was assigned a Pre-Major (Arts & Sciences) in the College of Arts and Sciences.
GPA-4.3. She was very disappointed she was waitlisted. This was her #1 choice but I think she’ll decline the offer because she’s happy with how her current in-state choice scheduling and roommate are going. And mostly due to the price/return on investment compared to OOS tuition.
Did they send email notifying the decision? Thx
After I saw this, we checked and my son got in OOS for pre-science/Biology! We are so excited! He didn’t get an email.
Congrats to all who get off the list! Hopefully some in-state too.
Portals are often updated before emails go out.
Just received this email:
Thank you, again, for joining the University of Washington freshman waitlist. We understand that the wait has been long, so we are writing you with an update. While we are not able to offer you admission at this time, we plan to keep the waitlist open in case space becomes available. You will be notified no later than August 1.
If you want to be removed from the UW waitlist, please reply to this email to let us know. If we don’t hear from you, we will continue to hold your place.
Does this mean I’m rejected guys?
My son got the same. I read it as they know some people got of the waitlist this morning and are telling their friends who might also be on the waitlist, and admissions is getting calls about it from those who didn’t get off. So they are nicely saying that you are still on the waitlist but at this point there is not a spot for you.
When ds was waitlisted, it was his top choice. Someone said, “Rejection is redirection” and I totally eye-rolled at that. But a few months have passed and he LOVES the school he chose even more than UDub. I say we all help our kids embrace the school they chose.
Yeah - she is committed to BU but would go to UW over BU if she got in. We are CA residents, and she is on the waitlist at 4 CA schools (nothing from them yet and not looking good) and UW.
I also just got this, I’m in state and this waitlist has been on my mind for so long so it’s definitely a little sad, does this mean the waitlist is closed? Or will they keep doing rounds if people decide to not accept their offers after today
The UCs had lots of kids on waitlists this year it seemed. And SLO. I guess we will see how it compares to previous years when the CDS is released, but it felt like a lot.
We are also in CA and my kid chose a UC when waitlisted by UDub.
S24 withdrew commitment from uDub Engineer Undeclared. He got off UC Davis waitlist (in state) last week for Aero Eng. Besides $ saving, he doesn’t want to be stress out for applying major after first year.
With the common app, students are applying to so many more schools with little incremental effort, so universities have increased difficulty reasonably estimating yield rates - which then drives the need to have a pool of waitlist applicants to pull from as needed. Plenty of WA kids will drop their UC (or other out of state) commitment if they get off the UW waitlist, and vice versa of course. It makes for a messy time unfortunately.
Sounds like there’s more uncertainty in the final enrollment than they’d like at the moment, so they’ll keep the list open a bit longer.
We received a FAFSA update last night saying we didn’t qualify to receive any aid for 2024-25. Given that D24 was on the waitlist and hadn’t heard a peep in months, thought it was strange. So she checked her portal and was surprised to see she was accepted for her first choice major, Neuroscience. We are OOS and she is really happy with the college she committed to. But UW is such a great school, and wishing that this acceptance had come earlier in the process.
Yes! Big waitlists at the UC’s this year and it seems like the majority of students coming off the waitlists have been OOS students. MY D is waitlisted at Cal, UCSD, CalPoly and SDSU (&UW). Got into UCSC (and now doesn’t want to go there) and denied at SB. She should have applied to LA, Davis and Irvine but she didn’t want to go to any of those. So not a lot of love from CA. I thought for sure she would have more options in CA with her grades, etc. Honestly holding out for any of them really.
Our CA high school saw a lot of kids get in off waitlists at UCSD and UCSB in the past couple of weeks, so there has been some in-state waitlist movement. My kid got in to Irvine and Cal, was waitlisted at UCSB and Davis and rejected UCLA. He didn’t take the waitlist spot at Davis, because he got Irvine the same day and liked Irvine more. He got off the waitlist at SB (and SLO last week).
Hope you get some news about CA waitlists soon!
