University of Wisconsin Early Action Fall 2025 Admissions

Hello. My daughter said she wanted to include her ACT score in her application, but assumed she had self reported them. Her portal says her application is complete. We just learned (per the post above) that official scores are required. It’s now way past the deadline. Will her application be rejected?

RD deadline is January 15, most likely they will defer from EA and wait. Best to call them and ask if they can consider the self reported score while you send the official score and still consider her EA.

Thank you. We’ve sent the score, emailed admissions and we’ll hope for the best. UMD also requires scores, bu it showed up as a task in her portal. Live and learn.

No score is required. They can do the evaluation without it. BUT if the score would be a significant help I’d agree with gooner. That would be a 34+ score IMHO.

Hello all. What are the prospects for a OOS (Illinois, NW Suburbs big school) with a psychology major? D has a 3.71 UWGPA with a 4.53 WGPA. 6APs (including AP Psych this semester) and 7 Honors courses. Pretty solid essays. 4 year athlete with club leadership and good community service. She loves Wisconsin and it is the school she wants to attend. Thank you for any input.

Forgot to mention she is Test-Optional. Thanks again.

She is applying EA this year. Forgot that, too. I promise you, she is much more on top of this than I am.

If full pay she’s in.

Thanks for replying. Is that really the case or are you kidding?

Did Wisc accepted your official score sent late? I just saw this, we had the same situation. Very confusing.

My understanding of public schools (and please, someone correct me if I’m wrong), is that they will accept regardless of ability to pay. Admissions office and the financial office work separately and most public colleges will not have even processed financial aid packages and merit when admissions decisions come out. Good luck to your daughter!

I don’t know why someone would say “if she is full pay, she is in”. Most OOS students are full pay other than Banner students. Very few students are offered any kind of merit. And OOS admissions has gotten messier and more competitive at UW Madison the last number of years. If you are from Chicago suburbs in IL, your school counselor may have good recent historic data for your school. Your student sounds like a great candiate, there are just a lot of students applying from particular areas - Minnesota (admission rate in MN was 30-some% last I heard) and Illinois have more applicants (followed by NY, CA, Texas in no particular order). More surprised and disappointed students in the spring after having record size classes and applicants in recent history.

I have done a little college related counseling for high schoolers in the midwest and my kid recent graduated from UW Madison from out of state. I do think they really read that “Why UW Madison” essay. I think visiting and really being able to talk about how you will contribute to campus life and being specific can be helpful. They are filling out institutional needs. I do think applying EA is generally a good thing. They do defer a lot of OOS applicants now to the RD round, so don’t be put off if that happens. You still have a good chance!

Good luck to your daughter! My son had an amazing experience there and launched to a really great first job too. I love visiting Madison!
You are welcome to message me if questions come up.

Thanks! Will have to keep on waiting, Hope it is before the 31st. :crossed_fingers:

Good afternoon. Does anyone know if senior year fall semester grades are considered by the admissions committee for EA decisions? I believe the high school will send them automatically. Not every school accepts them. Thanks in advance for any input.

This is what I see on their website. I would read it as they will not use it for all applicants, but selectively for some.

Self-Reporting Mid-Year Grades

Applicants may be asked to self-report their mid-year grades when prompted by email during the application process. To ensure a possible future admit decision is not in jeopardy of being cancelled, applicants must report their grades exactly as they appear on an official transcript or grade report that was issued by their school.

Ok thanks. I wonder if it would be useful to instead contact the school rep who visited the high school?
