UT Austin Class of 2021 Thread

@aasdf123 I just checked my honors tab on the UT portal and it just said that I was accepted.
@HankE @NotSoPatient Thanks!! And I got in for Biomedical.

Have all the CNS decisions come out yet??

@goldengem42 I don’t know. My D’s honor’s tab still says in review. :frowning:

@cypatx33 UT Austin definitely considers your second choice major .I applied for Mech E as my first choice and Civil as my backup in case I didn’t get mechanical. I’m very glad I chose Civil for my second choice major because I probably would not have made Cockrell if it were not for Civil. I had a 33 ACT, 790 Physics Subject and a 2180 SAT. Not superb and I was aware of it so I decided to play it safe with civil.

Mechanical Engineering is one of the most competitive majors along with chem e in Cockrell. The internal GPA cutoff for internal transfers to Mech E is 3.82 GPA from all your classes and a 3.98 from just your technical (math,science, engineering courses). you can check it out here http://www.engr.utexas.edu/undergraduate/admissions/changeofmajor

That’s great news! Congrats! Did they also say anything about financial aid? I understand from our tour at UT that once you hear back about Honors you also hear about merit-based scholarships.

We were told recently during a special event for aerospace engineering that less than 5% were given honors. There was one full tuition and I think 4 partial scholarships. They said honors was mostly a recruiting tool, and they may do away with it because all the aero students take the same classes except for one math class that is for honors students.

@NotSoPatient Thanks for posting. My S has been accepted into AE at UT for this coming fall so I appreciate the post. What was the special event for AE? And are they talking about doing away with Honors in general or just for AE. I would not think it is the later.

@Curi411 My D was accepted to aero back in Nov. I think the invitation was sent to her sometime in Dec. The program was this past Monday. They had a tour of the labs, the parents had a Q&A session, lunch was served at the UT Club, and then there was more Q&A, and there was also a professor that came and demonstrated how he teaches class so they could see a typical class. I don’t know overall about the honors program. I only know what they told us on Monday. Congrats on the acceptance!

@Curi411 Make sure to join Texas Parents if your S enrolls. There’s a great and very helpful FB group for parents only. The FB group is part of membership in Texas Parents.

@NotSoPatient, this sounds like a very helpful resource. My D is also admitted to UT CNS (Neuroscience), and has accepted. But, I’ve not seen anything yet on the FB group you mention. How do I get invited/added to it?

@CollegeDadTX I recall that TP sends out a mailer to all new UT parents. You can join the FB group only after you’ve joined TP (there is a small cost - well worth it). But you can always email them via their web site to make sure you’re on their list.

@goldengem42 @HankE I emailed CNS honors a few days ago, and they said they are still releasing notifications until mid-March

@astroglitter Thank you! You are referring to honors, correct? :slight_smile:

@TexasMom2017, ah, thank you! Just found their website: https://texasparents.org/. The membership for 2017 Freshmen parents begins on Mar 8. Sure looks like a great resource.

@astroglitter @HankE i meant regular decisions for CNS :slight_smile:

@HankE yes I was! @goldengem42 oh ok! not sure about that, but best of luck :slight_smile:

@astroglitter Thank you!! :slight_smile:

I was rejected from the Engineering Honors Program today :-S

:frowning:

I was rejected from EHP today as well.
