UT Austin Class of 2021 Thread

@bdiazrmz yes

@Larysa is your son going to Galveston his 1st year??

@utfan2021 and anyone else who is wondering more about PACE here is their FAQ link https://admissions.utexas.edu/enroll/pace/faqs
Unfortunately, I was offered CAP and not PACE… bummer. Maybe because COLA was my second choice and not first? Anyone know how this affects anything?

@mruckett23 We know some kids who thought they were guaranteed a major. NO you are only guaranteed COLA! Be aware of that completely when making your decision! It is almost impossible to CAP into McCombs, Computer Science, or Engineering. Good Luck! You are going to do great!

Accepted, Architecture, OOS

@gotodoit77 we are in the same boat as you. With a 2300 SAT there is no way your D should settle for CAP. UT’s loss if they did not accept her. There are plenty of good schools out there. Good Luck to her.

@TexasMom2017 - First of all, I am so sorry. We are only as happy as our least happy children. Secondly, become an advocate for your school to STOP RANKING. Your child was probably “dinged” because they want as many applicants in the top 10% as possible. Our high school’s admits to UT, TAMU, and other prestigious schools went up when they stopped ranking.

If it helps, I was told and have also read that when you apply also makes a difference on acceptance. The recommendation was to apply ASAP to competitive programs for they begin to fill up slots as they make decisions. In other words, although you may have great stats, essays, and ECs, if you applied later, you have less of a chance of getting in for some of the slots have already been filled. I cannot vouch that that was the case for my S, but although his stats were good, I think because we applied in Aug, that, and his combo with his good ECs and essays, helped him get into Cockrell vs some of the other posts here. Just a thought.

@txlakez - We tried to argue PACE for our daughter 3 years ago. We were told that certain students were selected for PACE based on their application, and that there was not an appeals process or a “rubric” as to what made a student a good fit for PACE.

@Curi411 My D also got into Cockrell. She applied very early as was suggested and was accepted in Nov. She has good stats, EC’s, etc. as well. I agree that applying earlier can’t hurt.

@Curi411 One other thing we learned was that showing demonstrated interest in the major you applied for helps.

I have a friend who applied August 1st with amazing stats and she was CAP’d. I honestly think that if you’re not auto you’re chance is very very little. Nevertheless one rejection does not determine the worth of anyone.

I was CAP’d
In state, Public Health, 31 ACT, Top 12% (moved right in the middle of high school to Texas thus didn’t have a chance to move up)

Life is full of disappointments and this disappointment is much smaller than what others experience so just have to be strong and move on! Congrats to all!!

@onelasttime2021 Thank you!! And thanks for the information!

@onelasttime2021 - so ultimately, what was that outcome? Did y’all continue with CAP or move on to another school?

Sorry to hear that @sean191297 :frowning:

Guess McGill or University of Toronto it is… @nyanpasu_ If God wills, perhaps Stanford.

@kd1003 no, not at Galveston. He is going to Texas A&M in College Station, as their Engineering school is actually considered to be #1 in Texas. So as much as we like Austin and were considering UT, I believe the education my son will get in Texas A&M will be exelent, plus getting in Honors classes is a big plus too. Trying to stay optimistic and believe that everything in life happens for a reason

@txlakez My beautiful daughter made lemonade out of lemons. She decided to go where she was wanted, took the extra scholarship money, and is a VERY SUCCESSFUL and happy student. She is a very proud red raider at the Texas Tech - and she really enjoyed cashing her scholarship checks every semester. There are so many paths to your bright and shiny future! It isn’t always WHERE you go, it is WHAT YOU DO WHEN YOU ARE THERE! Good luck…you are going to do great!

She was top 11%, 1350 (m+v) old SAT, lots of extracurriculars - was applying to College of Natural Science - Chemistry.

@Larysa Students applying for engineering majors as their first choice have to take general engineering in the first year, and at Galveston. What are you talking about?

@onelasttime2021 - thank you! so much to figure out now!
