UT Austin Class of 2021 Thread

Congrats to all those who were accepted to UT. Best wishes to those who were not and understand you will be fine with whatever school you select. I did want to take sometime to offer some information regarding those considering the CAP program. To see what stats are needed to transfer into your major of choice take a look at the 2015/2016 UT Austin transfer thread. Go to post #124 and #125 to get a GPA requirement idea. Also understand that UTSA is the most requested CAP school followed by UTA. UTSA is filled within a hour of taking request. The CAP program is clearly not for everyone since most of these kids already have open offers from other outstanding schools. Add merit aid and it clear many have much better options. Also those are offered PACE also follow the same transfer guidelines that CAP students follow if you you want to get into a major of your choice. I hope this clears up some confusion.

@NotSoPatient I agree re ECs in area of interest. My D, who was accepted into Aero Eng, was in the SystemsGo Rocketry program at his HS and had several ECs in that area. His stats were 1480 SAT, 32 ACT, 3.97 GPA but 15% class rank. Frankly, based on previous stats, we did not think he would get in. But those other factors may have helped. Just waiting on Honors now.

I’m not sure if I should do PACE or attend A&M. Thoughts?

Boyfriend CAP’d. Applied Econ first choice and Govt second. 31 ACT, 4.0 GPA, APs, Rec letter from a hospital board after internship, other great ECs, good essays etc etc. Very confused.

He missed top 7% in our class of 75 people by one person.

@sean191297 he is not going to Galveston but Texas A&M in College Station. Yes, I do believe that for the first year even there it will be general Engineering program and as long as you have required GPA you will be able to get your selected major.

“I’m not sure if I should do PACE or attend A&M. Thoughts?”

Intended major.

Denied as an OOS for Cockrell. UTD, you’re on deck

@larysa ok my son got accepted to Texas A&M College Station Engineering but has to attend 1st 2 semesters at Galveston… just curious. He got CAP’d at UT but I’m hoping he decides on A&M!

Rejected… :frowning:

@onelasttime2021 thank you! I actually have very mixed feelings about the ranking and auto-admit thing. I don’t know what the right answer is. The kids ahead of my son in class worked incredibly hard for those spots, so i’m not sure it’s fair to not let them have credit for that. My son attends a super-competitive public HS, but on the other hand, he’s had a lot of privileges and opportunities that helped him achieve those test scores and ECs. And he has lots of other great opportunities, so no one should feel too sorry for him. Ugh, it’s just so hard all the way around.

I got the same result. I got rejected from Chemical engineering and also did not get into my second major either which is Chemistry. I’m hoping there’s still space left for Chemistry next Friday.

@ghaid512 what do you mean “space next friday?”

my friends got into the same major that i got cap’d from, but they’re for sure going to deny and go somewhere else, so my question is, if space opens up can you get “uncap’d”?

Just got accepted to the Cap program. Can somebody explain to me how UTSA on CAP works? I have seen other people saying that UTSA is popular and taken in an hour, but on the UT portal it states
“The CAP agreement will be available for submission through MyStatus at 6 p.m. (Central) on Friday, February 24, 2017. Plan to return here to submit your agreement on or after that date.”
So how would people have already taken UTSA if you can’t even submit until a week from today?

@CollegeParent73 that would be the case here. There has been a very significant jump in gpa. If only UT had asked for or allowed mid-year transcripts they would know this. I feel like it’s worth a shot.

no not everyone get offered CAP. Around 1000 per the UT website

Rejected for CS as well! Saw it coming so no disappointment whatsoever :3

Screw CC on phones

Interesting thread on Reddit about CAP - as in several people’s experiences. (Neither for or against)

Sorry, can’t get the link to work. Copy and paste.
