UT Austin Class of 2021 Thread

CAP’d EE. In state, 1480 SAT (800 math), 33 ACT, 4.0/4.0 unweighted, 106 weighted. Don’t understand, what is my alma mater doing? This seems ridiculous.

@exutex those are great stats!! which major did you apply for tho?

@exutex – when did you apply?

@ED1998 Are you really going to UT Austin if you get accepted to the first two universities on your list?

@sean191297
I have to admit… UC Berkeley is my first choice so all hopes are for getting in there. 2nd choice is Penn. so we’ll have to see where i get in.

Somehow got admitted, but my cs major was declined (pretty much knew I would be declined beforehand). UT is my dream school though, is it worth going and just doing undergrad studies, maybe figure out other major choices I would be interested in, or should I just go to a local school here and try to transfer later?

And side note: Congrats to everyone that got accepted into their school of choice! Wish I was as lucky as you guys.

@ED1998 Right… I don’t really approve applying to highly ranked safeschools which are actually a lot of other applicants’ dream schools. Those with IVY qualified SAT scores only make the admissions more competitive and much more difficult for those with lower stats to get in. When you’ll receive acceptance from better schools, you won’t attend UT, you’ll only leave a seat open wasted; a seat that could have well served someone who’s lived half of his or her life for this very purpose. Oh well, congrats mate. It only meant you’re the better man haha

Congrats to those who have been admitted and condolences to those who weren’t. Posting this in case it helps future applicants. My DS is an OOS applicant who applied to McCombS with CS as second choice back in October. He was admitted to his top choice school and major, CS at UIUC (we are instate for UIUC) back in December, so UT fell off our radar. He has a 33 ACT, national awards, tons of CS experience including a government research position, excellent letters of recommendation, great essays, leadership positions, tons of volunteer hours, etc., and he was denied at UT. College admissions are a crapshoot and getting admitted OOS is very difficult. Put forth the best app you can and remember that the school you attend doesn’t define who you are.

Son was CAP’d at McCoombs . Felt like a kick in the teeth but there are a lot more qualified applicants here who hav been dealt a similar fate. Has UT changed its policy this time? His stats were well past the averages on McCoombs’ freshmen class numbers on UT’s website. Dazed, confused…

Just realized I got rejected.
I had applied to Cockrell knowing its difficulty but having the example of my brother, who is now attending it…

My stats weren’t the greatest:
1380 (680+700)
720 SAT Math II

I am disappointed, but I understand the process and its complexity… I only regret not being able to spend some of my college years next to my brother in Austin, it’s been long time no see

I am in the same situation, I got CAP’d from Cockrell yesterday. It is unfortunate that I will not be able to spend the next four years with my brother who is currently a Longhorn. Whatever, I’m sure it’s for the best.

Got rejected from Mccombs; in-state auto-admit with 4.3 gpa and 1430 sat

Anyone know if it’s worth it to go in undeclared and try to transfer to Mccombs?

@deluxan Best of luck! We will find our place somewhere else! United we stand!

I was accepted to biology major at UT Austin yesterday! My gpa was a 4.08 in a top ten public high school in NJ. 30 on ACTs no class rank tons of extra curriculars. Congrats to everyone accepted!!

Got accepted to Jackson School of Geoscience
New SAT 1440 (640 E 800 M)
SAT Subj MATH 2 800 Phy 800 Chem 800
TOEFL 99
GPA 3.77 unweight
International Student - Asian

@sean191297 look dude… i was born in texas… UT was the first school I obsessed about… so of course I was going to apply.
As far as my stats go they are actually a bit weak for UC Berkeley so UT is not only a safety school for me its a lifeline.

Denied my first choice major of mech e and got into civil engineering.
10.5%
5.583 GPA
33 ACT
750M/720R
750 Math 2 / 790 Physics
Anyone know how hard it is to change majors once you’re in cockrell??

Rejection stings, but I don’t think anyone should take it out on someone else.

Rejected

pretty much here to ask if anybody else got rejected with similar stats, I wasn’t planning to go anyways so I’m not too upset but with others getting accepted with much lower test scores and GPAs, as well as with UT having a pretty high 39% admit rate, I can’t deny I’m surprised. I had a horrible, scorched-earth relationship with my counselor though, so I want to know if his rec is the thing that got me screwed over, so I could prepare for damage control with my other apps lmao

@vasilevsky, “scorched-earth relationship with my counselor”. Not good. This is likely why you were rejected.

You need to evaluate what you can do for your other apps. Sorry dude. But you are in a tough spot.
