Ig UT will keep us waiting. Still says my application is in review and I have a BAD 100 DATA. OOS, applied by Priority. UT is a reach so I don’t expect to get in. My guess is they’ll defer a lot since many schools seem to be doing that.
@FrisHIGH2021 said a while ago that he saw the major he got into on his RIS a week before he was admitted… well, my major changed to “Liberal Arts, Undeclared” on my RIS yesterday and if my decision comes out on the 29th, then RIP my engineering dreams. I’m big sad, big depressed, and big disappointed. It kind of makes me feel like trying hard in school these past four years and being in the top 1.5% of my class just to get denied from my major was a waste, and I could have definitely sacrificed my rank by barely making it into the top 6% and, in turn, use my time to do something that engineering admission officers really want to see from the people they end up admitting. If only I could turn back time…
I know this is hard but try not to worry before you get your decision - it is wasted energy. Think positively and if it does not work out then come up with Plan B which might take you to unexpected places that make you happier!
Don’t despair! First of all, you don’t know anything, and neither does anyone who says they do. You might still get your top choice. But, even if you don’t, if you are top 1.5%, then you will have lots of choices. More people than you can imagine don’t get their dream school, but then end up loving the school they go to and if they had it to do all over would not change a thing. My top 3% son did not get his 1st or 2nd choice major last year and he felt similarly, why did I bust my butt to control my own fate, just to end up in same situation as if I hadn’t tried so hard? But, in the end, he got into better schools for his desired major. AND, the fact remains, if you go somewhere else, but your heart is set on UT, you can try to transfer. I know loads of kids who didn’t even apply to UT their senior year because they were so out of the top 6% that they believed it to be futile to apply, so they went to another school where they were able to get really good grades and then they applied as a transfer and got in. This could be a plan B for you, and you might end up liking your 2nd choice school so much you wouldn’t dream of switching. You are 18, and nothing in your life is set in stone at this point, and there are literally thousands (if not millions) of paths to success. There is not just one way to get to where you want to go. I went to UT, and I loved it, but I have very good friends who went to A&M, and they loved it just as much as I loved UT and they would never in a million years traded or gone back and changed their experience. And how did I become friends with all these Aggies? I went to law school with them, or I worked with them, or they are my neighbors (which means, we all ended up in the same place–same law school, same job, same community, same neighborhoods). I can’t promise you will get your major or go to UT, but I can promise, you will be okay either way!!
Very well said. UT is not the only school out there. Everyone’s hard work will eventually be acknowledged somewhere if not at UT.
Like everyone here we sat all day with bated breath “assuming” we would hear yesterday. We are OOS and others in our area (different schools) heard back in December. We are getting more nervous with each day…more so in trying to figure out how / why some kids have already been accepted. My son is 2/570 with a 5.5 weighted GPA (4.0 unweighted) and submitted SAT score. He has 4 years of varsity sports (co-captain this year) along with other EC and leadership roles. Texas is one of his top 3 choices. I keep hearing there is no rhyme and reason to the waves but not sure if that’s the truth. This whole process is stressful enough without now wondering the last 4 weeks why others have heard…for all of us.
Very well said. Sometimes in a forum everyone gets into this “crowd effect” that people start to become hell bent to want some news of admission. I was admitted earlier this month to BME that was supposed to be tough to get in, but if my local school here UTD offer me scholarship I will drop UT in a second! Both of my parents work overseas and I am staying with my 80 years old granny I don’t want to go too far from her. My stats also afford me other schools but I know it is the postgraduate work that matters.
I graduated from UT too back in the '90s, and I agree with every word you’ve said. My son feels exactly the same as 299792458, and I keep telling him everything you’ve said here. I honestly think he’ll be better off at A&M. One last thing auto admits: Remember, you DID get into UT.
Well, my RIS just opened along with practically everything else. Just not the official words across the top yet. Has me listed as Liberal Arts Undeclared. Unfortunately ranked 8th and a 4.0 was not enough. To be honest I feel like ranting but going to keep my respect. Looks like I am headed for A&M now. No shame in that either. Wish everyone the best! GIG’EM!!
My RIS changed to my second choice major, whoops. Guess being top 10 wasn’t enough;)
Yup, my auto admit son’s JUST changed from Bad Data to Liberal Arts, Undeclared. Business was his first and only choice. He didn’t even put a second.
Can someone explain why it would change to Liberal Arts undeclared?
My son’s major also changed to Liber Arts, “Undeclared.” It’s very disappointing. I don’t want to tell him anything since he is taking so many science/engineering Dual Credits. He graduated in Dec 2020. I guess this is another way of telling UT to the top 6% not to come to UT. I am not sure how UT can give STEM students the Liberal Arts option.
OOS and RIS still says Bad Data
Are the newly-changed RIS’s (from BAD1000DATA) IS, or some OOS? Ours hasn’t changed, we’re OOS.
OOS still bad data here
That’s the automatic default for in-state top 6% auto admits who don’t get their first choice major. Business, Engineering, Computer Science and College of Natural Sciences (premed) are VERY difficult to get into.
They also changed his first choice major to “Liberal Arts” on the application “MyStatus” as well. Status is still showing “Your application is still being considered for admission to your requested major”
I meant the expense for reporting AP scores. When applying Dean List Honors program, it asks for AP scores.
Engineering has no undeclared and CNS undeclared probably full, COLA undeclared may be a tiny notch better than UGS. Some students’ stats are simply too high to CAP/PACE them but I am praying it is just clerical error cause it also happens to two of my friends that rank 6th and 9th (not percent actual rank) in my HS.
