UT Austin Class of 2025 — Regular Decision

My daughter got accepted yesterday. Non AA, ACT 31,SAT 1410, 4.33 GPA, very big competitive TX high school.

Yes they did accept a good amount of RD last night which really does not seem fair to the priority applications who had it in on time and still have not heard back just is not right or fair

There should still be many acceptance waves remaining for RD, right?

Yes. It’s true. It stinks for our kids who can’t help where their parents are stationed… Texas has to fill a quota of kids who graduated from Texas High schools, period. We may be able to pay in state tuition (win!) but competition is pretty stiff OOS. We were floored she got in; extremely grateful and excited after three high schools and a move before senior year. Best of luck. These kids are so gritty and resilient they’ll land on their feet wherever they decide.

DS is heart broken yet desperately holding onto his faint hope to McCombs. He is in state non AA from a non ranking private day/boarding school which historically would send at least 20 students out of a class of 120 give or take. UT also has a history of capping students from his school where students unwillingly ending up at UCB, UCLA or GeorgiaTech. My son is single minded in love w UT but guess that’s unrequited love:(
My opinion won’t be popular, but I truly believe top 6% rule is crap. FWIW, his ACT is 34, and other stats and ECs way above some of the admitted profiles. But who says life is fair? Really disappointed with how UT handles the admission process.

I’m hoping there are more decisions coming out soon? Has anyone heard? My daughter applied in October, and her portal still says “awating decison” or something like that. We are OOS

nope still waiting my daughter oos applied early october still in review

Your opinion is not unpopular. One of my teachers who graduated from UT a few years ago, said that after the first semester he noticed a handful of faces missing. He said that many people he knew would not have had a chance if it were not for the top 6% law.

which is why CAP exists, those got in due to 6% but can not keep up with just drop out or transfer, then CAP students move in to fill the spots.

A&M used to be 25% now 10%, it’s relatively easier to get in, but to graduate especially from engineering majors, it’s as hard as UT, it only has like 30% graduation rate.

you can really smile when you graduate, not when you are admitted, due to those top 6% or 25% rules, which does not really measure how good you’re at a state level.

your opinion is not unpopular, but it can get censored easily as you just speak out the ugly truth, the 6% is just a different category for AA, which put diversity way ahead of excellence.

I haven’t seen many in-state or OOS Comp Sci decisions. Any updates?

i saw a few on reddit and there was an RD applicant in this thread if u scroll up who got in for cs last night.

Firstly, congratulations to your D and her parents! I appreciate your kind words, and yes, our kids are more resilient than most. It’s just that, in our case, with dual military and all that has come with that for our case in particular, I really prefer that my kids don’t need to prove their resilience unnecessarily. Still, I also understand that there’s probably a logical reason for these guidelines of which I am not aware.

No, our other acceptances have been lovely. Some will give specific date and time (Tulane), others post all at once and have a typical time (Michigan). But everyone finds out at once. UVA will also provides date and time. This is some seriously weird stuff. I don’t understand the disorganization. I guess they don’t care but, personally, I don’t think it’s a good look.

Did Uva announce date and time? Thought they just said by mid Feb ?

They said mid Feb but they will update on insta or twitter a few days before. So at least we’ll have some idea close to the date!!

does anyone know when architecture might come out? (applied before priority ddl)
