I have a child in the AET program, I’m a software engineer, and I really like the program. It’s decidedly not CS but it’s got creative edges (gaming, audio, video) that are decidedly cool. My child will get a Cert in CS and is loving the dept/program which has a small school atmosphere.
As I recall they were collected from the core courses you’re correct. I know the ACC transcripts get sent to UT to satisfy the gpa requirement but I don’t remember how the final UT transcript reflects/acknowledges those credits. I don’t believe they represent the credits as UT course credits. More like transfer credits or AP credits.
@FriscoDad - agree with you on setting a fixed date. The more “mystery” they hide behind builds and leaves the perception that they’re not being transparent or can’t handle the volume or whatever. Furthermore, if you’re going to have a centralized admissions structure across the various schools, then make sure they fall in line with messaging and communication that Admissions is sending.
I guess we didn’t do enough homework on UTs “tricky” admissions process, whereas the majority of our time and resources were spent on learning as much about COFA.
As I’ve said before in this strand, I think UT is a wonderful school and has a great reputation across almost all disciplines, I just truly think they need to tighten up the admissions process and create a more united front. For example, my D was encouraged several times to apply by November 1 “priority deadline” and hear a decision by Feb 1. As it turns out, there was no practical reason to meet that deadline, because COFA looks at all supplemental materials (ie portfolio submission) AFTER all applications are received. We also come to find out Jan 29 (when larger UT decisions are coming out) that COFA decisions won’t be released until March 1 “to continue to review all application materials”… So she finally gets the deferral message in her portal on 2/2 with that March 1 date, and two days later on 2/4 that she’s been denied… LESS than 48 hours after the deferral message!! Seriously? You looked at HER application first and decided to release a decision?
Anyway, end of the road for this disappointed dad. Good luck to all who will be enjoying Austin in the fall. (and GO BLUE! lol)
Something that is not clear to me: If an priority applicant it is waiting to hear a definitive answer about an honors program (status is still “in review”) is that the same as a deferral? Has any one received a message saying they have been accepted to UT but also received an outright rejection for an honors program?
My daughter was accepted in December for CNS, but her Polymathic scholars app has a recent message saying the need more time and will release those decisions by March 1. But I think I’ve seen that other honors programs have gotten answers already.
Thanks, @rbc2018. Has Turing and CSB released all decisions? Is no explicit rejection = deferral to those honors programs until March 1?
I’m not sure who has released, but based on the way they’ve done overall admissions, I would bet that they wait and post the rejections at the end. But I’m only speculating. There’s another thread for accepted students, I’ll take a look there and see if anyone has posted about those.
Edit: I just checked, and I’m only seeing reports of acceptances into LA Honors, Plan II and BHP. Nobody has mentioned a rejection, so that also makes me think they save those for last.
@WorkSmart2025 , I looked at last year’s thread and there were honors acceptances on February 5th for engineering honors. Maybe we will hear something tonight? I have not seen anyone post about an honors rejection on here or Reddit.
I have heard of some students being rejected for Plan 2 program
Maybe because Plan II is a major and not just an honors program. Hmmm
My daughter was accepted to CS on Dec 10 and we are still waiting to hear from Turing. We are still hopeful. I have only seen one OOS Turing acceptance on this thread.
there is also a Turing thread. Several have post on it.
Hi! We live in the Houston area - we are super excited! Where are you from? haha, I’m going to guess Tennessee??
I believe CS Turing Honor was released 4 days ago. They do not reject others until the last minute. So if you’re in congrats, if not move on.
When did you apply: December 15th extended deadline
Class Rank: 61/692, top 8.8% (at the time, has increased since)
GPA (My school has a weighted 6.0 scale): 6.5476 (at the time, has increased since), UW 4.0 - 3.83
Classes: 11 honors/accelerated, 8 APs (APHG, APUSH, APELC, APBio, APMacro, APGov, APStats, and APLit), and 6 regular-level courses (not by choice, had to take to fulfill graduation requirements) I always chose the most difficult courses possible for my schedule all 4 years of high school Also, I decided to do double-early release senior year, so I only had 5 classes instead of 7.
SAT OR ACT: No test scores
When did you receive your admission decision: January 28, 2021. I’d like to mention that my application was considered late and unacceptable on January 4th b/c my school sent my transcript late. I appealed and won (received accepted appeal result on Jan. 21). I was then accepted a little over a week later.

We are from Houston too. Son accepted to McCombs
Denied Engineering OOS 1530 SAT (800 MATH) 99 unweighted average.
i got rejected from plan II
Why would a delay in your school transcript make your application late? I thought SRAR was the only thing required until a student gains full admission.
Yes!! Nashville.
