UT Austin Class of 2025 — Regular Decision

Q-So my daughter got CAPPED and she will appeal, and if she signs up for CAP on Feb12th, would that effect the appeal, i.e. AO thinking that she will take up CAP anyway, so no need to accept the appeal. Any thoughts on that?

If someone’s first choice is UT, and there is no financial cost in appealing, and no real downside, then not sure why someone wouldn’t appeal. There are also lawyers who specialize in it and they will tell you if it’s worthwhile or not.

Anything goes this year, so it may be the one time it’s worth the risk! Just don’t be set on a yes. Make sure you have a back up in case it doesn’t pan out.

Good luck!!

I think that would be a good question for her school guidance counselor. I bet schools have a history of caps and appeals.

Yes I have heard too that it fills up quickly. Especially if you have the chance to go to UTSA or UTA. I am taking off work so that my son and I can be on the computer at 6pm sharp.

So my son got CAP. Yes we plan on signing up for it (he wants to be a RTF major) but is having a hard time because other schools that have accepted him have already made their financial aid offers and they are large. Does anyone know how long after accepting CAP there will be a financial aid offer from the school?

On the CAP site under each school there is a section about financial aid and scholarships. It varies from school to school what is offered.

I’m curious why a lawyer would be engaged for college admissions. What are the legal issues?

Probably because they can write the best appeal on behalf of an applicant. There is an attorney in Dallas that is well known for this that a lot of people use.

For those out there accepted to McCombs already that also applied to BHP and told that their apps were still under review on Feb 1st, has anyone gotten an interview in the last 11 days? We haven’t heard a peep! BTW, we also tried to update with first semester grades and they would not accept them (unfortunately since they were all A’s with 4 AP classes).

My son emailed and asked if he could submit additional information about spring semester and someone from Canfield replied saying they could not take any additional information. Sounds consistent with what you saw from the portal. Good luck

our reply was also via email.

Do UT assigned admission counselors to individual High School influence admission decision?

I believe a simple appeal from a student showing passion about UT and major choice will be more than enough.

Hi FengQiu, Congrats!

I also got accepted into Architecture and was worried I wasn’t finding any other admits

I don’t think they have any influence

Any idea when financial aid packages will come out from UT?

@neonblizzard
FWIW… We spoke with Financial Aid/Scholarships earlier this week. We specifically asked about scholarships, so I don’t know if it is different from a financial aid package, but we were told students would be notified by the end of spring.

I asked him what he meant by that since a student had to commit by May 1st (before the end of spring) and he didn’t say anything. I then asked if he meant the notification would be April 30th and he said yes.

Needless to say, I didn’t get a warm fuzzy feeling from his answer. I suspect he was reading a script and didn’t really know how to address any specific questions not on the script.

Ok thanks that makes it hard for sure can’t make a decision until see the numbers

I remember with my daughter it was very late. Maybe like April. Scholarships are also very few and basically none for OOS unless you’re a forty acres so don’t count on those.

Yes. If you don’t know by now, UT is notorious for not giving out a lot of money.

So, make sure you apply for everything you can! I believe every little bit can help.

Returning students should always look for departmental scholarships- the applications are usually due spring time.

Also it looks like there is still time (not much!!!) to apply for Texas Exes scholarships. Named Scholarships | Texas Exes
