does ut match financial aid offers of other schools? (and
how successful are financial aid appeals)
Congrats - not sure which one of you is speaking half the time - you the parent, or you the parent as your daughter, so whoever one this is, best of luck at Rice! Definitely can’t go wrong, especially if your end goal is medical school.
@srparent15 Its most of the time, me the mom. Sometimes my DD chips in. Thanks for your wishes!
Haha, I was so confused when it was back and forth and finally realized it was two of you sharing the account!!
Didn’t think you were a bollywood dancer! lol
She will do awesome!!
Hi would you be able to provide info on residency via property? Does the student have to live there ? TIA.
If you contact the UT residency office Texas Residency | Undergraduate Admissions | The University of Texas at Austin they are very helpful and will guide you through what needs to be done. Technically the student is supposed to be living in the property and that is the address of record that needs to go on the student’s tax return which is what is one of the items provided for attaining residency, but many do not. The student does however have to own the property with their name on the title.
Thank you very much. Any realtor recommendation ?
We used Chesney Coker of Tower Realty. He’s been dealing with this market for a long time, focuses mainly on the OOS student to resident market and also does property management. He has a good little gig going if you ask me. Wasn’t the best when it came time to asking questions about what we needed to do about residency and had a little guide, but since he doesn’t have the access to UT portal, doesn’t really know. Found it helpful to get that info from parents and it was a surprisingly easy process once we needed to take care of that about a year after the property was bought.
Awesome, thanks a ton for sharing information.
Does anyone know anything about new off campus housing at The Standard?
There is also another one I keep hearing about Torre? but cant’ find any info about.
There are so many housing options. I was set on Callaway, but second guessing now.
Any info would be helpful. Male, OOS, plan to rush a fraternity.
TY.
The Standard looks great with awesome reviews. Are they getting paid for those reviews? Seems incredible. Looks like a spot where Greek folks would thrive. Historically, Callaway was a place where Greek (cool kids) would lay down deposits months in advance. Is The Standard a new complex?
Freshmen typically stay at Callaway, the others are for Sophs, Juniors and Seniors primarily.
It doesn’t seem like its’ even open yet- I guess this will be the first year. From what I’ve been told, most freshman are going to Callaway, but I’m still inquiring. Housing is hard to sort out when not from Tx.
Still trying to determine best social fit. On campus or Callaway.
Based on reviews of The Standard at College Station, I’d pass on the new Austin location by the same group and go with The Callaway if you’re going Greek. Otherwise, the on campus dorms are tried and true.
For frat life Callaway, then Castilian. Callaway is ridiculously overpriced but it is where the cool dudes live, Castilian more comparable to dorm pricing and a good location a block off campus, neither win prizes for food. I would not go to an apartment as a frosh. Torre isn’t open yet either.
I hope you are already making contacts at the frats, most bids go out in July.
If you are less likely to go Greek, on campus becomes more of a discussion.
How would one go about making contacts with frats before getting on campus.
How do get into rush? in NJ can’t travel to ATX for rush events now like some in-states do.
How’s it work once you get on campus.
The Standard is a new apartment building opening in the fall, not an off campus dorm. Mainly upper classmen will be living there. It has no dining hall like castilian or callaway. It is true apartments and pricey. 12 month leases.
See if they’re on instagram. Go to the IFC page and contact them Office of the Dean of Students - Sorority and Fraternity Life - How to Join

Also a lot of it is word of mouth
Hi! Does anyone have information on late appeal? When are decisions coming out and what are the chances for a COLA major?
