Anybody have any insight into Polymathic scholars? Who they look for, how they pick, etc.
Any OOS CHBP people who didn’t get an interview nor a decision? I feel like I’m the only one
do you guys think there will be another wave before january?
Next week should have another small wave.
This week the small wave (12/10/2020) on a Thursday was already very unusual in UT (normally Friday). Most of the acceptance to desired majors in my HS have been auto (64 vs 2 non auto). Most of those auto accepted in my HS have better offers and probably won’t go UT.
Some people mentioned using FB class of 2025 group size to see how many accepted, this won’t work for this year because the FB group was renamed from 2024 as a few hundreds deferred a year due to covid.
Two years back, my daughter applied by Dec 1st deadline and heard her decision on Jan 10. I doubt if they’ll do anything during winter break as the schools are closed and won’t be responding to any emails and so I wouldn’t expect any decisions before Jan 1st week around Good luck!
Thanks,KaYoung2025. How can you be sure there will be another wave next week?
@rbc2018 I don’t have any special insight into the polymath selection process, but I can tell you about my daughter who is a current junior in the program. She was an in-state, non-auto admit with great stats. I think what set her apart were her unique research interests and an honors application essay that reflected her creativity and quirkiness. She was admitted to the university mid-December and Polymathic Scholars early February. She chose UT because of the honors program and has been extremely happy there. Feel free to message me if you want more info.
I applied to McCombs but not the CBHP. (I thought it would be too competitive). Does anyone think not applying to it decreases my overall chances to get into McCombs? Thanks.
I don’t think it will hurt your chances of getting into McCombs - from what I’ve heard they are two separate and distinct processes.
Not applying to CBHP should not hurt your chances. In 2014, my eldest son applied to McCombs but not to CBHP, mainly because his grades were not as strong as they needed to be for Honors. But he was admitted, and majored in Finance. Good luck to you!
What does the 64 represent? You’re not saying that 64 auto admits from your HS were accepted, are you?
If so his high school has over 1300 in the class with all auto-admits processed. That’s assuming 6% AA and 80% of the top 6% applies to UT.
How many enroll in McCombs each year? I’ve heard 120 are in CBHP.

My friend applied this year but not to CBHP and got in. The two are unrelated.
Hey y’all! I just started a new thread called “University of Texas at Austin Class of 2025 After you’ve been accepted…Q&A”. My goal is to free up this page for folks who are waiting on decisions and give accepted students a page to ask questions. Please join us over on that page when you get your acceptance or if you can share your pearls of wisdom for us Longhorn newbies! Hope to see everybody over there very soon!
This is correct. CBHP applications are usually reviewed by alumni and a different commitee. Often times students are interviewed for CBHP before they’re even admitted to McCombs and sometimes they are not admitted to UT at all.
Also for the person that said they think the class is about 120. I believe it’s more around 140, but that may include CSB students as well, but my daughter’s sophomore class is now much bigger as they took many new CBHP transfers this year and there may be about 170 sophomores now. I think there are basically 4 sections of every Honors class she can choose from to take with the exception of the Lyceum they had first semester which everyone took together (remotely).
The UT decision process is really confusing to me. My daughter is an auto admit (Rank 26/763, 3.41% of her class). Applied on 10/11, application completed on 10/20, auto admitted on 10/21. I think her essays are good, 4 year high school orchestra, superior level performance in UIL solo all 3 years till now, 4 year varsity golf player (including senior year) all district and region first team and all district academic team all 3 years, 14 APs (including 4 in senior year) only 3 she scored was in Physics 1 AP in sophomore year rest of them are 5s and 4s. Research paper under review, will be receiving AA degree from community college this semester (Dec 2020). She also volunteers (150 hours just in junior year, 300+ hours total). We are still waiting for a decision on her first choice major. The whole application process is clear as mud!
The problem is that UT in a normal year receives well over 50k applications. If your daughter applied to a competitive school it is not as clear of a process and she just has to wait. You said she’s earning her AA so if that’s the case she has already been out of high school for 2 years, unless I’m confused on that and she is just DE, but bottom line there are so many factors involved and the school she is coming from and the strength of the school matters as well.
So you just have to wait to see where she will end up and what school/major. The application period hasn’t even closed yet for this cycle as I keep joking with my son that he still has 2 days to change his mind but he’s not interested. So you just have to sit tight, hope for one more wave this week and then most likely not another one until January after they return from the holidays.
@srparent15, she is just graduating early at the Community College, because she did not want any extra community college courses in the spring semester of her senior year. No, she has not graduated high school two years ago, she is 17, class of 2021. The school is very competitive, she has a unweighted GPA of 3.96.
@Momof0ne waves are a luxury, they should not be expected as a part of the process. UT could’ve just realeased all decisions feb 1st or March 1st depending on when a student submitted it, but they choose to send some out in waves instead. The waves are also random, the most we can gleam is that there are general trends and characteristics in each wave. I’m sure your child will be fine, she sounds like a great student, so I wouldn’t worry that hard
