Reddit post is Cap.
Is it to late to apply to UT?
Not cap, this guy is auto and he found out yesterday, not today.
Deadline passed 3 days ago.
Ugh, thanks
I am an OOS and I heard back and got into McCombs but still waiting on CBHP. Based on the last two releases I feel like the First week of January is most likely since they’ve just went on winter break.
Yes I am OOS and did not submit test scores and got into McCombs. 3.7/4.3 GPA, Strong Extra curriculars, Very Happy with my essays.
When did you hear back from them?
@GigiMayf, I don’t know if this helps but I’ve heard from somewhere (Dale Price? Or The UT Admissions Guy? Or That guy who wrote the college admissions book that College Confidential sponsored a thread earlier this year?) that UT considers applications by schools so that they can compare the same crop of kids from the same environment. In other words, if there are 25 applicants from School A, they will look at all 25 in the same batch of decision making. If they historically have admitted 15 kids a year from that school, they consider that as well. It probably gets really difficult comparing kids who all have 1500 plus SAT and 4.0 plus GPA and stellar extras so looking at them in their high school environment helps them with the comparing process, I guess? So, I guess what I’m saying, is if kids haven’t heard from your school, they probably haven’t made decisions yet about that batch of kids. The stray kid from random School B may have gotten in already bc nobody ever gets in from that school and this one kid is a dynamo so it is easy to go ahead and make that decision. What is fair is up for grabs but this is my understanding of at least part of their process and why there are trickles of kids getting in.
My uncle used to work in Office of Admissions (2004-2016) said that UT Austin also used US News and World Report High School Ranking (I didn’t even know such thing exist before). But if you google it, it is there.
Does UT Austin give merit to OOS applicants?
Could it be an honors application delay? I’m hoping that’s why my OOS S21 hasn’t heard
o wow, i haven’t heard anything yet, but I did sumbit test scores. What ec’s did u have? Any sports?
Econ Dept is the best in Liberal Arts
My son got into McCombs last Thursday but I don’t think anyone else at his school has heard back about major yet. His class has around 300. Last year 131 applied and 41 were accepted, so it’s a well known school to UT. Previous years UT accepted closer to 50% of applicants from his school. All boys competitive private school with lots of engineering and business students. My son applied October 4th
Last week thursday in the big wave. Only 3 people from my school heard out of a bunch who applied and my stats weren’t the strongest
I think UT is very holistic. My sons were strong but he wasn’t auto admit
Just came to know that my daughter’s friend got accepted into civil engineering yesterday. Mine is still waiting for decision on BME! This is soooo frustrating! So, did they have a wave yesterday or not? Are they really doing waves anymore?
BMEN is the second most competitive engineering right behind EE/CE. I think in this forum few years back they even rejected a valedictorian of a class of 1100. I was told BMEN doesn’t take much look at unrelated ECs like Orchestras and sports. The essays are very important. Expanded resume should also include more detail about classes, work/jobs and even hobbies related to BMEN. BMEN has many focus areas, if pre-med is your goal it is important to state that in essay. You can continue to upload/add document in the portal.
My daughter’s HS is very competitive. I believe there are around 70 in her graduating class. Her HS is ranked top 15 in the states of Texas in US News. Apparently 2/4 auto-admits have gotten their majors. There are only 4 auto-admits to UT. I think three have gotten in to their ED college (top20).
There have been 4 other non auto-admits already admitted. So only 6 out of 70 have gotten in UT so far.
