UT Austin Class of 2028 Official Thread

With all due respect, you are being really RUDE.

there is no problem…they said they would release on Feb 1. if people are impatient, so be it…that’s not the School’s fault.

I feel you are missing the point. But that is ok. Good luck to you/yours.

I totally agree. That’s kinda my point. They are so big and get so many applicants that they don’t HAVE to do nice and considerate things. People will attend anyway. So that’s definitely something to consider in a school. At this point my bro has said “nope”.

no offense…it’s just a bunch of manufactured drama…UT all along has said Feb 1. Chill out !!

This used to be a fun thread - it’s not anymore. Good bye and good luck everyone

Good luck to him. UT is not a good fit for everyone.

Ill say this. We went on 15 college tours including Brown, Rice, UMich, Amherst, Vanderbilt, etc.

UT was the only one that sent us a handwritten note from the tour guide.

You explained it perfectly. It also makes me wonder how much of a cattle call school will be. The way other schools have treated my daughter has been an eye opener for me. I loved UT when I was there, but that was 30 years ago. It has gotten more popular and bigger. Things like the admissions process gives me pause. That’s my opinion.

Same happened to me with Michigan two yrs ago. It was a mess! That ultimately set the tone for me and I knew I didn’t want a huge school. But to each his own. I wish everyone good luck!

It is a big school—a lot of moving parts. No doubt. But clear and consistent communication is an easy thing to do. Other big schools manage it, so why not them? I assume it’s because they choose not to, and that is their choice. How the admissions team treats you is ONE indicator of how you will be treated in the next four years. So, some people will use this to determine how they feel about the school, its fit, and its culture. That’s their prerogative, and no one here on this forum has the right to criticize them for it. Each to their own. Good luck today!

Has UT gotten bigger?

I know…this was so fun here until about yesterday, and now suddenly mean people have popped out of nowhere. What happened? The core group of us have really been enjoying our repartee the past couple of weeks. Now it’s just Fakebook all over again with accusations and people telling people how they should feel. Yikes.

There are a few mean people on here, but they tend to come and go. It will be back to normal soon.

Years ago, I got my undergrad degree at Texas. It was big back then and, to a point, I felt like just a number. You have to seek out advising, other advice, research opportunities, etc. Skip class? No one cares. Did you miss registration? No one cares. Nothing is given to you on a silver platter. However, I feel this was great preparation for real life. No one holds your hand. I can respect the fact that not every student can handle an environment like this at 18.

Now, why someone who is turned off by an environment like this would even bother to apply to a huge school is ponderous. Probably the same people who are losing sleep over Texas saying it will release admissions decisions “by” 2/1 and not “on” 2/1.

Just stop with this please. You’re contributing to turning this thread into an uncessary argument. It does not matter anymore.

They apply because everyone on CC says “your best bet financially is your state school”. So in many homes, it has to be an option.

@Zrt42 Because not all big schools are like this, and you often don’t know until you apply. And for a lot of kids, this is their in-state school that provides the best financial option for them to go to college. So you or I are in no place to judge or comment on how someone feels.

Admission office is totally separate from the rest of the school. I would not extrapolate of the way AO manages their work to how the educational experience of the students will be.

If people are upset that they didn’t receive weekly/monthly updates on the admissions process like other schools, I’m not sure they’d be happy going to UT. They have every right to feel this way but the school may not be a good fit.

Just my opinion.

my son is at Vanderbilt…absolutely loves it, as do his parents. Couldn’t have asked for anything more (except the dorms kinda sucked when he started but that has changed).
