UT Austin Class of 2028 Official Thread

Did they say at 5pm or after 5pm?

I’m not speaking for stephfinch, but other big schools can manage to be more consistent with their admissions process, so why can’t they? Many have late in-the-process acceptance days (Feb and March), which I know for everyone is frustrating, but they make a date clear “On XXX” rather than “by XX.” Each year, these schools are consistent with the drop date, unlike, based on what others have said here, is not the case at UT A. As someone who works in this field, I can tell you it is not difficult to do. It’s their head of admissions decision to do it this way.

Furthermore, others don’t do these little waves of acceptance that appear to have no rhythm or reason. The sporadic small groups of acceptances and a drop date that appears to fluctuate each year create unnecessary anxiety. I would prefer if they just said “ON Feb 1” and they either did not do the small waves of acceptances or communicated what/why or how they are doing them so as not to send students into a panic when they applied to the same program as their BFF and their bff heard in December and they are still waiting.
Good luck to everyone.

I am also an alumnus. I have no problems with how they’ve handled the process.

If you’re upset that they haven’t given a decision earlier than you wanted, then don’t attend. 4 years of college is a big decision so go for what you feel is best.

I don’t mind either how they’ve handled it - I think we all created expectations on our end truthfully. It seems to me that they’re taking their time with each application and reviewing them holistically. It’s such a big school they probably need to send out in waves that aren’t officially announced.

I am totally fine with them releasing the decisions on Feb 1st. That is certainly their call. However what upsets me is their small waves. They have so far in this cycle had 4 such small waves. That creates unnecessary anxiety in the kids and parents. Be fair, release all the decisions together.

So your frustration comes from semantics?

If they say by 2/1, isn’t it just a bonus for anyone who finds out before that day?

A better communication might be needed from UT. There are schools seem to be able to manage large pool of applications with higher clarity and transparency. And please no need to be rude to ppl who express their frustrations.

What I am saying is that clarity and consistency (year after year) will go a long way in reducing a lot of anxiety and eliminating half of the comments posted on this forum alone over the last week. It would probably also reduce the number of calls and emails to the admissions office at a time when they are crazy busy, not to mention, server problems that they have to deal with when kids are repeatedly checking their status. Be clear and consistent. Pick a date and stick with it.

Same for my bro. He’s already given up on UT. Doesn’t want to be treated like this for four years. :cow2:

May be, they were just waiting for students who got accepted to T30s to withdraw their UT application so they can include more in the big wave of today.

Treated like what?

He got a decision on Feb 1 and not January 6th or 15th or 28th?

well, in UT’s defense, they must be getting inundated with calls asking when decisions will be released. they said Feb 1
if they release early, fine
if they don’t, so be it. it means nothing in the bigger picture.

Did they send this to everyone? It wouldn’t hurt to do so.

UT did NOT help themselves the way they communicated with no communications.

with all due respect, you’re being ridiculous

" they must be getting inundated with calls asking when decisions" - an email to everyone would eliminate this problem. They may very well have sent one, but I haven’t seen one.

Yes. He had already heard from every early action he applied to. They all told him exactly when to expect it too. So if his choice is to NOT feel like cattle at a massive operation that can barely handle the huge amount of applicants, then that is certainly his right. The other schools are sending him emails of congrats and admitted student events etc.
UT needs to get on the ball, in my opinion.

Ok. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Let us not be uncivilized here. Thank you.

Let’s be very candid. The reason many people are anxious is because there is more demand than supply.

UT is not helping themselves? Most people will attend the best university they can afford. And if UT is the best school that matches that criteria, most people will attend even if it means they get an acceptance 2 weeks later than they wanted or they didnt give everyone weekly updates.

UT received 66,000 applications?
