UT Austin Class of 2028 Official Thread

my major, AET, (Arts, Entertainment, and Technology), doesn’t require a portfolio, but it shows that my application is still in review. My major is in fine arts, but it doesn’t require a portfolio.

Hi. Can you please point me to the information that says no in-state applicant is ever rejected outright at UT? Thank you.

I’ve seen quite a few people ask about Engineering Honors. My current Longhorn daughter was admitted last January 30th to her first choice - Mech E. About 2 weeks later she received her email about Engineering Honors and her merit amount. And for those of you saying UT doesn’t give anything, our experience was quite the opposite. It was one of our deciding factors. So you never know!

Thanks for sharing! We are patiently waiting for the word on honors and any merit awards and this helps to know that some students actually got it in the past. Do you recall if your daughter’s honors status changed to “deferred” at all? Ours went from “submitted” to “deferred” a few hours after major decision release. It was never “in review”. Seems strange.

My son’s engineeting honors went from submitted to deferred also.

Hi, I got deferred on Feb 1 for Dean’s. I have heard of a few people who got rejected/accepted though. Was wondering if anyone who was deferred at one point has had their status changed yet. Also wondering if they are releasing these in waves or all at once.

Hey! I just received an email saying that I have advanced to the next round of review for the Terry Foundation Scholarship at UT Austin. I did some research and the scholarship seems really cool but competitive. Do a lot of people advance right now or is it a smaller number of people advancing at this point?

She didn’t check for any portal clues with any of her apps so no idea about any status changes. And I’ve never even seen the portal!

UT gives very little merit. That is simply a fact. It doesn’t mean a lucky few won’t get merit. The year my DD applied, she got business honors plus a full tuition and fees+ scholarship. Not typical though.

Read the fine print on the Honors page. It tells you in the first sentence it is under review.

Thank you for the encouragement! I’ve heard of people getting between $3k a year to $12k

It’s more like $20K.

Just adding stats for future applicants:
Applied CS by priority deadline, attends large urban public, SAT 1570, UW GPA 3.96, In State, math through Mutli-Variable and Linear Algebra, 16APs (5 in progress, one 3, three 4s, seven 5s, four years foreign language, NMSF, Eagle, STEM ECs/competitions, community service, heavy church involvement, top 9%……CAPed.

What were her stats? How has she felt about the EHP since being part of it? I’m wondering if the EHP is mostly based on rank/GPA/test scores or if it’s more holistic.

Is anyone aware if admitted to UT if I accept the admission I can reserve a spot by paying the enrollment deposit is this binding? Thank you!

Oh, wow! Per year? That’s AWESOME and brings great hope! The highest I’ve heard of is $12K with people saying they usually get $3k a year.

I’m sure these are all rumors. But, my daughter is hearing UT made some major mistakes and they are calling people today who were capped but should have gotten in. Obviously this is just a RUMOR. Has anyone else heard this? Would make since in my child’s case considering all of her stats and ECs are WAY above the average and she was caped.
