Has anyone heard back yet about a business honors interview? I was accepted to McCombs but haven’t heard back yet about my honors application.

Are you IS or OOS? Do you mind sharing your stat?

State law requires that the University of Texas at Austin reserve 90% of its spaces for Texas residents. So, I don’t think that we can assume an OOS applicant with higher stats would be given a spot over a non-ranking instate. I think the reality is that there will be a large number of instate applicants with “average scores” admitted over OOS with “above average.”

Here’s a clip from Kevin Martin’s Tex Admissions. He’s the guy who worked in admissions after graduating from UT a while back and has a consulting business. This does not mean he has insider info, because he hasn’t worked there in a long while and has to hear just like the rest of us. But, perhaps his words will help each of us to realize we are going to have to ride this next month like a wave in the ocean. We cannot grasp the wave in our hands…we cannot move it…cannot change it or make it go our way. Just like breath…we will have to let it all be.
" I receive these frequently asked questions around this same time every year. We can only speculate on how UT might release their admissions decisions. Every year is different, and they often implement changes on a whim without communicating anything either to the public or even behind-the-scenes for high school counselors.

Nobody has a crystal ball and can predict when and who finds out early. Not even UT admissions counselors know.

Lots of charlatans, snake oil salesmen, and QAnon disciples try to predict when decisions come out. Even if their guess is correct, they are totally full of crap. A broken clock is right twice a day. Unscrupulous people love to take advantage of anxious students and families by making false promises. They try to claim some secret or exclusive access or having a “cousin in admissions.”

Don’t listen to the grifters.

Looking at you College Confidential and Carol. Shame on you Carol and “consultants” like you who spread lies and offering false hope. They then capitalize on student grief by offering expensive and worthless “appeals services” following rejection that I refuse to offer and see as unethical. I’ve been watching and commenting UT admissions for a decade, and if I don’t know when decisions come out, nobody does.

We can only look at past data and use “inductive reasoning” to make imperfect forecasts about what may happen in subsequent years. I wish UT was more transparent about this and many other things, but it is what it is. That means the public can only go off unofficial sources like mine. Nevertheless, you can expect to hear back any time between late November and late January. Refreshing email or My Status doesn’t make the release come any quicker.

No student is ever denied their major or to UT overall early - those decisions go out all at once usually at the end of January/beginning of February. In the past few cycles, everyone has heard back by February 1 regardless of whether they applied by the November 1 priority deadline.

International applicants usually hear back on the last day of February or the first day of March. Architecture and Fine Arts students should also expect delays.

For Fall 2021 freshmen, approximately 8,500 enrolled. UT received more than 66,000 freshman apps, 11,000 auto admits. 29,000 apps from non-auto admits. Admit rate for non-top 6% was 13% and OOS/international admit around 8%. The overall admissions rate was 25%."

Merry Holidays, all!!! May all of our season’s dreams come true for our kids and even us. : )

Good information.

What will they do if all 11,000 auto admits decide to enroll ? They only have maximum 8,500 spots

Friends, some “ex-UT admission” officer claims that UT does not care about GPA, the # of AP courses or the difficulty level of the courses. They only look at the class ranking and sub-scores of SAT/ACT scores. My child goes to a super selective school that does NOT rank. Does this mean there is no chance getting in? Thank you so much.

I am a parent and do not have an official knowledge of UT admissions process, but reading all the related threads here and from various other sources, I feel UT cares the most about rank and everything else is secondary. This is for admissions. Then, they do consider everything else when deciding on merit aid.

We are in your boat too. Rigorous college courses in high school (harder than my classes were in high school and at UT!) and doesn’t rank. Makes it nearly impossible in college admissions. :disappointed:

A lot of schools outside of Texas don’t rank.

We live in New England and the school counselor told us her rank and she put it in her recommendation letter.

Im not an expert on this but I believe the school gives a range of GPA and so colleges can see where the applicant is relative to the highest GPA.

In the history of all college admissions that has never happened (100% enrollment). They have so much data on their yield rate and use prediction models. Yes, in an “up year,” they may attract more than anticipated, but never more than they can handle. As someone who works in this field, having too many students is a nice problem to have. More students means putting on more sections of each class and, if necessary, hiring more faculty. The only real problem relates to housing, and UT doesn’t guarantee housing anyway - many students live off campus.

In the same boat… wish UT gives some more information as to how they would assign a rank to a student from a non-ranked school. Like gpa between a certain range will be assigned 1st quartile etc…
