reg will hear back at the same time. Every past year they released all decisions regardless of when people applied at the end of Jan. idk why they even offer a priority deadline when they do that.
UT easily has the most convoluted admissions of any college I’ve heard of
Agreed (besides U Tampa, they are terrible). I think it is mainly the 6% rule and some majors being easier than others since they admit to major that makes it super weird.
Very true. I just wish UT would pick a date to release all decisions instead of these “waves”. It just drags out the anxiety for months cuz it could be any day. Most other colleges have no problem releasing them at once, idk why UT does
Please keep in mind they still do release some decisions in mid to late-February for the applicants who applied after Nov 1. Last year, my son’s friend got his acceptance to bio in mid-February. They worried a lot when he did not get a decision in late January, but at the end it all worked out fine.
Do they release rejections each round or do they save those for the last round?
Usually most rejections come out as one batch on last day of January.
Do we think a wave will happen today?
Possibly tomorrow, but no one knows.
I think so. People are reporting tab changes so there should be some tomorrow.
edit: Nevermind, thought I was in Texas A&M lol.
theres this one guy he goes by “the ut admissions guy”. he gets the data from previous years and posts them. Usually they start with small waves after jan 10th and do mini batches on some days until they do the big one at the end of the month. ill copy and paste some of his stuff.
Fall 2023 applicants heard back on these dates:
- December 13, 2022: UT releases a small batch of regular admissions decisions from various majors and a handful for Plan II Honors
- January 10, 2023: UT releases a small batch of regular admissions offers from various majors. BHP continues to request interviews
- Monday, January 30, 2023: UT releases almost all decisions for all majors and residencies. Some Honors programs like BHP and Turing were yet to be released. =)
- February 18, 2023: BHP continues interviewing students and doens’t release all of their decisions until the end of the month
Fall 2022 applicants heard back on these dates:
- November 18 released a small batch of liberal arts and natural sciences
- December 15 UT eleased a small batch of decisions, including non-auto admits and out-of-state for selective majors like CS, Engineering, and Business. Plan II also released a few.
- December 22, 2021 a few Plan II and Health Science Scholars Honors decisions trickled out in the past week. BHP continues interviewing applicants. UT did not release any large batches of students in December.
- January 14, 2022, UT released some decisions, mainly auto-admitted Texas residents. It seems some non-auto admits have also received their majors, but most auto-admit decisions have not been released. A handful of my top academic auto-admit clients have gained admission.
- January 21, UT released their first batch of rejections and a small wave of admissions offers
- January 25, UT released a small batch of acceptances, including for Architecture and Fine Arts.
- Friday, January 28 2022, 6:40pm: UT released the main decisions, of which virtually all were CAP/rejections.Here are my thoughts on that cycle:
- Tuesday, February 1: Many honors decisions went out, including for Turing, Liberal Arts Honors, Plan II, and varied Natural Sciences honors.
Probably one tomorrow night
why do you think that?
There is normally a small ones Thursday night in Jan and a big one during the last week with mostly rejects.
Are the conversations here about end of Jan / early Feb decisions related to regular decisions or early action?
I believe they relate to early. However, based on conversation, there does not appear to be a big difference in release dates for early and regular - everyone finds out by March 1. The small "waves " of releases up until February 1 will be early applicants, with the remainder of early applicants receiving their decision by February 1. Some regular will start to roll out shortly thereafter- up until March 1
Is there not a big one which includes mostly accepts as well, the big accept wave? I thought end of January was that wave.
There generally is a medium sized one for accepts in Jan, but no where close to the size of the reject wave.
Yes, I would expect the rejects to far outweigh the accepts. I assume there have been very few rejects at this stage, so that final wave would be huge.
I don’t think any rejects at all yet. Basically, the further you go into Jan, the less likely you are to get in.
