UT Austin Class of 2028 Official Thread

Did anyone receive notification of advancing with the Finis Welch scholarship today around 5?

Mine is now back up as well

What scholarship is that?

See y’all on Monday? Same time same place?

My daughter received her acceptance to the Deans Scholar honor program yesterday evening about 630pm. She was an auto admit in early October and received her admission to her biology major in early December. She had a 4.0 unweighted GPA, 1550 SAT, founder of clubs, choir all 4 years, soccer/captain 4 years, research at an embryology lab, summer job at Houston arboretum…

Congratulations to your daughter on this impressive accomplishment! Is there a time frame to accept Honors? Since they have 50 spots, wonder how they attempt to fill it if some students decide to go somewhere else.

Soooo what day are we thinking???

It will almost certainly be Monday or Tuesday in the evening. We don’t really know which one.

So what did UT favor more in application? GPA/ EC/leadership?

Good to know. Just curious why not Wednesday or Thursday

Because they said before 2/1 and they have never done it the night before.

Makes sense :+1:

Does anyone know the most applied to major

In previous years at our high school, the admitted kids consistently had higher GPA’s. I know a lot of really strong EC/leadership kids with good GPAs who were not accepted relative to higher GPA peers.

It didn’t say anything about time frame. I’m assuming it’s May1st

Thanks! Are you in state or oos?

We’re in state- Houston

In state. So my comment was regarding those who were not auto admit. Very competitive public school.

Congratulations! Is there a monetary merit award with this Honors program?

I live in TX now and grew up in NJ. Left when I was 25 and have lived in OK, Italy, CO, MD, FL, TX (military). Newark is a place even people from NJ avoid, same with Camden, NJ. Definitely a place you would want to visit before accepting. I would not feel safe sending my kid there though.
