UVA Fall 2015 Transfer Thread

Anyone hopes to pursue a second major/a minor if admitted?

@puncherkid I was considering it, I’ve always had a soft side for neuro science/psych, do you know anything about pursuing a double major?

@plsplspls I don’t really know about double-major policies in Uva. But I hope to major in media studies&sociology, if Uva allows students transferring as a junior to declare a double major.

@puncherkid

“College students may major in two College subjects. A Declaration of Major form must be completed by each major program (see above statement on credits). Some other schools of the University allow College students to minor in one of their programs.
Non-College students are limited to one College major and/or one College minor.”

@plsplspls Oh thank you so much!

I’m planning on double majoring and/or a minoring, hopefully Foreign Affairs and Middle Eastern Studies :slight_smile:

I really love the college feel that UVA has ( and what I was expecting out of a college) . My school doesn’t have that at all and I’ve had no fun here! I want to do medicine too :-B

@plsplspls

I love my current school! However, UVA’s business program is a lot more developed! So I want to transfer for their business program

FYI that transfers could get deferral to waitlist, too. Are you ready for the 11th hour release? YES/NO/MAYBE are the outcomes. Good luck folks … ps. any more green circled green checked to report?

I was wondering if anyone could chance me?

@uvahopeful101 post your stats and such.

@quanfo 11th hour release haha? You sound like your speaking in riddles quan!

@April16 well then you be should glad even if you don’t get into McIntire, there will only be 20-25 seats this time.

@hoospls haha yeah most of my friends go to UC schools so I’m used to the big school vibe! And that’s cool, do you know what you want to do specifically? I really want to do pediatrics.

Sorry for the late responses I just woke up I-)

@plsplspls so I am a freshman at W&M and I am not happy here at all. I want the big school experience and the minute I visited uva this year I fell in love. I didn’t apply in high school, one of my biggest regrets. Anyways, in high school I had a 4.3something weighted gpa. I was in the top 5.02% of my class. My school didn’t do unweighted but I remember calculating it and it was around a 3.8/3.9. I was an officer for the history honor society, French honor society, student council, key club, and I was a yearbook editor, did track and field, and held a job. My first semester here was not so hot. I let myself be influenced by my emotions and personal problems I was having and that affected my grades so I ended up with a 2.9 gpa. This semester I’m taking more credits and I have a 3.77 gpa and I sent them my mid-term reports. I’m involved in Red Cross, a literary magazine, campus kitchen (helps the poor families around campus), and joined two professional fraternities. My act score was a 34 and my sat was a 2110. I know my first semest sucks and I am terribly upset about that, but I’m hoping they see my high school record and my second semester and give me a chance lol. I really don’t want to have to reapply next year, but I will do so until I get in ahahha. I also had a rec letter from a professor in my major and a red letter from a high school teacher who’s also a friend and who works for uva as a freshman admission officer, so hopefully that helps. Good luck to everyone and maybe they’ll just accept all of us haahah!

@uvahopeful101 how were your essays, what major are you applying to?

2 things: that 2.9 might kill you and you should be very thankful that you are instate.

Overall you are a stellar student the problem is that you were so amazing in hs and when you hit college you dipped a bit, I know that freshman year especially first semester is crazy and I’m sure they consider that as well. Stay positive.

@plsplspls hahaha yes most definitely I am very grateful instate bc if I wasn’t, I wouldn’t even have applied. I’m trying to major in sociology. I’m a really good writer and I had many people look over them before even submitting it and they all had great things to say about it, so I’m confident about my essays at least hahaha. I kind of wrote them an explanation about why my gpa was not representative of who I am as a student in the extra section of the common app. Hopefully, they look at that and stuff ahah. At this point I’m expecting the worst and hoping for the best.

@plsplspls Neuroscience is next to impossible to pursue. My sister was once planning to double major with it, but the program only take 15 people (back when she did it so I’m sure it’s larger now, but you get the point).
My girlfriend also stopped pursuing it shortly after looking into the program. Psychology on the other hand is easily an option.

@uvahopeful101 good thing you mentioned it, given you have a decent explanation you have as much of a chance as anyone here! I think you can do it, I don’t think you will even get rejected, if anything you will be a top waitlist candidate.

@plsplspls thank you :). You were extremely helpful! Hope everything works out for you and maybe we’ll see each other around grounds next semester!

@uvahopeful101 you’re welcome (: success is on the way, I feel it in the distance.

@uvahopeful101 I think you have a great chance of getting in. The purpose of the midterm report is to determine an upwards trend in your grades and you seemed to have accomplished that. I am really not happy at my school either and its hard to keep going when you aren’t happy. Good luck!! :smiley:

Please chance me!! I am a current freshman at Ohio State. My parents moved to Virginia 12 months ago for my father’s job so I am now considered instate. In high school I had a 3.65 GPA in a healthy mix of AP and horns and regular classes. I had a 30 on the ACT. I played junior varsity sports, served as a student alumni representative on my school’s Alumni Board, and worked 18 hours a week. In college I have a 3.75 GPA and a member of a sorority which I am involved in, Kappa Alpha Theta, and participate in many service opportunities Ohio State offers.
