Folks … have some (blind) fate in the process. If you were complaining about CC with grade inflation, why did you not start at CC? I do not want to know the process because I knew the truth hurts and it’s ugly. Everyone will have a different chance - You are an individual not an apple! Even 2 apples are different in shape and weight.
@quanfo You speak the truth. And starting at a CC would mean there is no back up plan to do business
Haven’t heard but posting stats (any insight would be appreciated i have no idea my chances)

@quanfo is right, everyone is bringing something different to the table here. I also honestly believe that in our own way we all have equal chances to get in. Everyone here is ridiculously qualified so no ones confidence should waiver either. Just be patient!
If it helps anyone, just think if you were trying to get in as a freshman lol. The competition is 10x as steep and they have so many applicants that it’s a mere numbers game to big schools like UVA.
@McIntireguy123 I’m applying normally and not using gauranteed admission. You have to jump through a bit more hoops to get the GA and I thought I had a good enough chance to get in anyway.
I hate to ask, but do you all mind gauging my chances?
Applying as a sophomore to Arts & Sciences

Currently at a top 50 private university; top 20 undergrad business school

Strong essays (looked over by multiple journalists and professors) and strong letter of recommendation
ACT: 30 (Math 32, Science 31, Reading 31)
Took rigorous courses in high school… Don’t exactly remember my GPA, but something like 3.75 UW
Thanks a ton!
no check mark…
Does anyone know if we could expect to hear before May 1? Like could they tell us on the 24th (the Friday before). It seems like if freshmen decisions come out early then transfers should as well. Maybe that’s not the case.
^In years past it has happened as early as a week before, but on the blog it says that it is unlikely this year. Last year decisions came out on April 30, and in years past they’ve all typically been a little before this, but since the number of transfer apps is only increasing year-by-year, I would assume we’ll probably hear back on April 30 or May 1
@transferyu I would highly suggest you calling admissions now, like right now.
I really don’t think ill be able to wait these 15 days :((
@plsplspls Please stop spreading this myth. The check mark means next to nothing especially considering the increasing volume of applicants.
“View decision status does not have anything to do with your final admission decision. Sorry, folks!” - Dean J
I don’t have a checkmark either, its a green circle that has a key saying “complete”…
@LaVolpe Spreading it? Go to page 4 on this forum and look at my responses, I linked the UVA webpage that specifically explains what the check mark means.
The check mark and the showing of the view decision link shows that your application is “deemed complete and ready for us to read” although it is automated, it is a precursor to UVA knowing that your application is able to be reviewed. In this case, @transferyu should call undergraduate admissions because we are 2 weeks into the process and the automatic system still hasn’t changed his or hers profile.
http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/2012/11/three-sis-status-terms-to-know.html?m=1
I will even link it again for those who also don’t have the check mark or view decision.
@plsplspls Mine hasn’t changed either despite having nothing on my to-do list for well over a month. Except I’m not freaking out because I’m well aware that Dean J has said not to worry about anything unless they email you and say that you’re missing something.
Telling people they desperately need to call is just going to make people panic for no reason.
There is NOTHING to be worried about if you don’t have the check mark yet.
Dean J when asked if there was anything to infer from having the check mark very early/late-
“Nope. Don’t read into stuff like that. There are different factors that affect when your file starts moving in our system.
Have you seen highways where the on-ramps have traffic lights that affect how many cars flow into the road at the same time? It’s not exactly like that, but you can sort of think of it that way. We’re reading all these files and there are tons of new ones that have become “ready to read” but you don’t want to just throw them all in play and overwhelm the road. So, some cars have to queue up on the entrance ramps and wait to get onto the road.
Again, that’s not a perfect example of what’s happening, but it’s kind of close.”
@LaVolpe well touché haha, honestly, I only sounded urgent because undergraduate admissions would know more than anyone on here.
Glad you dug around and found that.
@transferyu I am sorry if I scared you though. :-S
Does anyone want to chance me? I currently go to William and Mary, I had a 3.58 gpa first semester and I’ll be transferring in as a 2nd year. I have a 2320 SAT score and went to TJHSST in Nova and had like a 4.2. My essays were probably pretty good as was my recommendation. I just a little bit worried about my college gpa, but maybe it’ll help that I’m coming from W&M. I know on their website UVa says the avg transfer gpa is a 3.5 but everyone I saw posting that they got accepted last year had close to a 4.0…
