Gotcha, after nothing from the UW-Madison Waitlist for CS the past few weeks, I think my son is moving forward with his commitment to Virginia Tech for Computational Neuroscience and will look to Minor in either CS, CE or Math. Registering for classes starts tomorrow and room selection on Friday, so I think we’ve passed the point of no return.
Same situation here. My son has found a roommate, taken placement tests and has registration in 2 weeks. We aren’t expecting at all to hear from WI at this point, except for when the waitlist is closed. He’s excited about his (2nd) choice and I’m coming around.

“Love the school that loves you back” feels very apt now!
My husband is currently in the industry, I have been and watch trends, and we have a kid that recently graduated in CS from Madison. I suspect this is probably more regional than not.
VT is closer to the northeast corridor with their major metros, so it’s not surprising that school would be more popular to apply to from there and launch back to one of those metros from VT. East coast companies probably more regularly recruit there too
We’ve seen midwestern including madison CS grads placed all over, but many chose to stay in the midwest at least for a first job. My kid is working with a bunch of elite grads. US News puts UW Madison CS at 13 and VT at 36. Now I am the last person who is going to quibble about those numbers. But I certainly wouldn’t say Madison is “lesser”.
Madison is expensive OOS and rarely gives merit. It is further from the coasts and some people don’t like winter. Having done a little college colnsulting and especially watching Madison closely, out of state admissions has certainly gotten more competitive, especially out of some metros.
Edit: I was asked by my friend to take this post down. Info shared is still accurate. DM me if you have questions.
Thanks for your update, really appreciate what you did for this thread
Thank you. I have really enjoyed this community we built and I want all of you (or your children) to get into Wisconsin.
I never said Madison is Lesser. That said, I do see where you are coming from. Thanks for the insight.
I just realized this place is gonna be dead lmao. There’s still minor hope that a big wave remains, so i guess we’re just waiting to see how the dominoes fall by the end of june.
Oh don’t get me wrong, I’ll still be lurking…!
Until we hear the waitlist is closed. Can’t help myself.
Dawg what was the point of posting this here
Like ig its good to read but why?
Why not. People feel free to post baseless hearsay. This is real and documented.
Bro most of the baseless hearsay in this forum was coping + some evidence to support it depending on what released
It is cool to see this tho
Has anyone come off waitlist? Thought they expected some action last week but seems quiet
Against all expectations, no one has seen any new waitlist offers since May 23rd.
The worry is that Wisconsin’s yield was up and they won’t need to use the waitlist very much this year.
I still want to be very positive and have utmost faith in God. Hopefully something for us this week. Fingers crossed.
Here’s the email my daughter got today at 10am. For any hopefuls out there, maybe them working on more forms is a good sign?

Thanks for reaching out again.
At this time, the only documents we are able to accept for your application are those that were submitted in the Wait List form back in April/May. I believe another form will be sent out again at some point to give you the opportunity to add more materials.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to us again. We are always happy to help.
On, Wisconsin!
