UW Madison Wait List, class of 2028

My daughter got a text. Deadline of May 17. Confirmed.

Seems like that might mean waitlist offers don’t go out early like they did last year

I didn’t realize last year they didn’t have a date on the continued interest email. So my guess is we are back to May 20ish date and unfortunately it may mean their won’t be as many accepted off the wait-list as last year since they may wait until after decision day unlike last year.

I’m hopeful they’ll pull kids off before the 17th. But if not, even this little crumb today has somehow made the never ending wait a little less painful. Somehow.
My son applied EA 10/30. Seems like 3 years ago

Our student received the same email.

I’m not sure a little less painful, seems to be continuing to give another glimmer to hopefully not get crushed in the end. My son has already committed elsewhere and we’ll eat the deposit if UW-Madison offers and he accepts, but just would like some closure before graduation…

Same, though we are three weeks out from graduation and I’m doubtful. We have a friend who got in off of the wait list last year…in June.

These were the waitlist accept dates posted for UW Madison last year on CC:

  • April 27 (appears to be third largest release)
  • May 5-6 (largest release)
  • May 19 (second largest release)
  • June 3
  • June 16-18
  • July 7
  • July 13 (Waitlist closed)

@yikkblue Does your child still have their waitlist interest email from last year? If so, could you check and see if there was a due date for completion?

My son just checked his wisc and personal emails and didn’t see a waitlist interest email from the school. It’s all silent and then the off-the-waitlist text. Sorry we couldn’t be more helpful

Congratulations

I think they added the respond by date to the letters this year to give the kids a hard deadline so they don’t take forever to respond. They need to know as soon as possible who for sure is still interested in attending. Everything has already been so delayed with FAFSA that they can’t afford anymore delays. My prediction is that we see a ton of waitlist movement next week. Maybe some earlier in the week but the majority coming out on Friday the 17th. Last year they had the bulk of all waitlist offers sent out by May 19th. I’m sure they know the longer they wait the greater the chance more students will commit elsewhere. So they need to move quickly and efficiently to secure the class of 2028.

Hey, anybody hear back yet?

not yet

Nope

I guess they completely foregone the early pre-commit-date acceptance. This probably means taht come May 17, LOTS of people are gonna be pulled off.

I sure hope so! I’ll try so hard not to check the portal this week  but I’ll probably be unsuccessful

Student in my Son’s class got off WL yesterday. Total shock for that student.

Is that student OOS? Any idea which major?

Yes, from VA. No idea of major. Wisconsin was a reach for this student as they were deciding between two other schools not as highly ranked. Don’t lose hope.
