UW Madison Wait List, class of 2028

this is good news! thanks for sharing

I think so. I haven’t seen any other posts about students getting in off the waitlist on CC, Discord, or Reddit. This aligns with what their AO told me that they are offering a few spots here and there to fill specific gaps, but won’t start in earnest until after the 15th.

Side note. Wisconsin sent an email to counselors sometime in the past day (and presumably to students this applies to as well). It has extended the deadline to accept admission for students who have submitted FAFSA and not recieved their aid offer yet to May 31. They have extended the housing deadline to cover that too.

Anyway, just speculating that may affect waitlist rollouts? Time will tell. Such a mess with the FAFSA this year. Crossing fingers for the hopeful future Badgers out there!

Son decided yesterday to choose Univ. of Florida over Wisconsin, a decision he had been struggling with. Hopefully a deserving waitlist student can grab that spot. Good luck to you all, UW and Madison are a wonderful place.

Florida is a great school, congrats to your son!!! Every day that passes, my son is closer to just moving on as well…

I’m assuming their yield must not be looking great? The problem is just wondering how many wait-listers are willing to hang on if they get pushed back even more?

Does anyone know when UW-Madison sent out scholarship/merit awards (if any) to their current acceptances? My son’s other option sent out in late April.

It’s a good point about hanging on. I think my daughter’s interest is waning. Who knows what would happen should she get the call but as if right now, her head is totally at another option.

Only about 5% of UW Madison students are awarded any kind of merit money. And that includes things like auditioned programs, etc. A lot of their scholarships are niche - departmental, regional, etc. Some require applicants to apply for them. So the announcements are not consistent across the board.

I assume the automatically considered ones are probably notified for the most part? Though with the late deadlines and uncertainty this year, some may get reallocated if there ends up being a lot of wait list movement.

I just found on a Class of 2028 FB UW-Madison Parents/Families site that FAFSA numbers are still slowly trickling in the past week… So if they are still just pumping out info, I guess it makes sense to delay the deadline.

Interesting! I know at least some of the bigger scholarships were rolled out at the same time as admissions info.

I am currently at UF because I was waitlisted WIsco. Where is your son from? I am getting really excited about FLorida

He’s from St. Petersburg but really liked Wisconsin (Michigan was first choice, mom and dad’s school but he was waitlisted). He’s really excited about UF and it has gotten all sorts of great reviews lately. Where are you based?

Do we know if those that were accepted but hadn’t committed yet, were asked if they were still interested? I haven’t seen anything, but wondering if it’s solely based on their FAFSA delays or just not receiving many confirming their acceptances?

Someone on Discord posted yesterday that they just received their aid package from Wisconsin.

Congratulations, what major

So does anyone have some sort of more concrete proof of if yield is low this year(lower than usual)? It’s fine if no one actually has any, but I can’t trust that UW Madison giving more aid out is a sign of trying to rectify yield(does’t seem that believable).

Nope, no concrete proof of lower yield. We’re operating on breadcrumbs and hopium. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

We used to live in Cincinnati. I am originally from Toledo and my wife from Cleveland, although our son has always lived in Florida.
