West Wing fans - great price on DVDs

I can agree with your comments, zebes, even having watched only an episode or two.

JustAMom, I’m sure your daughter will be thrilled with her “gentlyused” WW collection!

My offer stands to anyone who wants to wrap my WW collection to put under her tree - but I probably won’t be checking in often today. I will come back mid-afternoon.

I’m kicking myself over not going for the deal. I figured I’d only watch it once, and couldn’t seem to interest anyone else in the family to watch with me either when it was being broadcast or when I borrowed DVDs to finish up seeing any episodes I’d missed. Less than a week after passing on the $75 deal, D1 decided to hang out with me while I watched a season 7 episode. Naturally, she immediately got hooked. She did a marathon of watching the first season (library), and keeps asking me why, oh why didn’t I buy the complete set?

She has to call another branch library today to ask them to send the disks for Season 2 to our local branch. I am not making a half-hour drive to another library to get them!

Such a nice offer NYMomof2! But I don’t need it as a gift either–it’s just for our family to enjoy. Merry Christmas everyone!

I’m sure that this deal will come up again - earlier in the thread I linked to a website which is supposed to track prices and notify you of reductions. Also, look at other sellers on Amazon - under “buy new” in the item description. Right now, there are other sellers with excellent ratings selling for $121 compared to $145 from Amazon itself.

NYMomof2, no worries, I know there’ll be other deals. It was just really amusing that D1 got hooked so hard right after the offer was gone! She really has a bad case of “OMG, I’ve gotta find out what happens next”-itis. I was unsympathetic, telling her that for those who’d watched on broadcast, you had to wait all summer long to find out what happened after those nasty end-of-season cliffhangers. She did manage to find some episodes on line, and did get to see the resolution to the cliffie at the end of Season 1. She also does “remember” some of the storylines, because I’d talk about them even when no one else was watching them with me.

Anyone still waiting for their dvd?
Target has now bumped the estimated delivery date to February 1 for my West Wing set; I’m wondering if they just want people to give up and cancel their orders since they seem to be stocked with full priced sets.

Mine from amazon did arrive later than expected but it did, finally, arrive. For that price, it was worth the wait.

sarha, I also ordered the set from Target (in November) and had my delivery date bumped several times, most recently to February 1st. But I just received an e-mail on Saturday that my order had shipped, so don’t lose hope!

Thanks all, Mary13, I haven’t gotten a shipping date but I’m hoping it will be soon.
My H and I just finished our marathon viewing of all 5 seasons of The Wire and we are jonesing for another good series to watch.
The Wire, BTW, ranks as the best tv series I’ve ever seen.

D and I spent a ton of time watching Season 1 this weekend ( we recieved it from Amazon on New Years Eve, but she was out of town). What a great show. I can’t believe that I did not watch when it was actually on!

sarha, I received Season 5 of The Wire as a Christmas gift (after watching Seasons 1 through 4 a year ago and becoming completely hooked). Wasn’t it terrific? It’s absolutely the best TV series ever and I miss it. I’ll never understand how it was overlooked by the Emmys.

A few months ago I watched a marathon on AMC of season 1 of Breaking Bad. It was really good, too – a little disturbing at times but well done. Season 2 starts soon, can’t wait!

Another great series is Mad Men, but if you haven’t watched it before you really need to get the DVDs to catch up before Season 3 starts.

I bought the complete series of The Wire right before Christmas; Amazon had a special Goldbox Deal for $99, I think.
It was a leap of faith because we’d never seen the show but friends highly recommended it. We just finished season 5 last night, I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a well written show.
I had to laugh when I read that the current mayor of Baltimore is being indicted on a series of charges that seem right out of The Wire. Life imitating art, or sadly, art imitated life.

^^ My thoughts exactly when I read the news story about her. Guess Narese’s character was based on her, huh?

I missed the original $75 deal you lucky ducks got (even with delayed shipping, it would be worth it). I have been monitoring sites that watch across the web for good prices since I first noticed this thread about a month ago. Nothing better than $125 for the complete West Wing set so far :frowning: But I will keep watching, and update this thread if I see another good deal.

Target canceled my order because I didn’t respond to their email (even though I thought I had). :(

I ordered the Amazon offer for my H for Christmas and was disappointed to get a message that it would ship between Jan 20 and Feb 3. But it showed up last week and we watched half of the first season over the weekend. I’ve never watched it before, and I love it. I’m a history teacher, and I’ll have to start restraining myself and not ask H and D if they get every allusion, or they’ll get tired of watching it with me.

momof2inca, I think that’s a dirty trick on Target’s part. As sarha suggested, it seems as if they are trying to save a few bucks by delaying/canceling the discounted orders. Did you contact customer service?

momof2inca, I would not accept that - you placed the order at the price they were offering, and they should not weasel out. I would definitely complain.

Quick update: My West Wing DVD just arrived! I am really pleased but surprised because I never got a shipping email. My D and I are going to start watching right after lunch.

Mine arrived as well! About 3 days before my daughter left to go back to school - first week in Jan. I gave her the option of “late Christmas” or save for birthday (March).
She opened it right away and her eyes lit right up!
It is amazing. The box is so cool and the books are really neat.
We didn’t get very far and she left it behind… she is a senior with a very busy semester.
She will probably have plenty of time after graduation! ;)
