What are you doing for July 4th weekend?

Heading to Minneapolis for a volleyball tournament

It’s a two-fer for us! We have a cottage in Canada. Will be celebrating Canada Day July 1 (their 150th!) and then staying through the “weekend” returning home later on the 4th. Beach, sun, ice cream, kayaking, maybe a little hiking in the plans.

At home, one of our neighbors has always lined our entire street, both sides, with little American flags. I love that.

DH is officially retired on Friday. We’ll be celebrating a different kind of Independence Day. We’re checking in to one of the Scottsdale resorts for a spa weekend stay-cation, including dinner with friends at the resort’s fabulous restaurant Friday night.

So true @MaineLonghorn! Just got to Maine and once the jet lag clears, we’ll be facing July 4th. Five mile run, breakfast, parade, who knows what, lobster supper, fireworks!

I’ll be in NYC Saturday and Sunday. D and I are seeing “Hello Dolly” and just hanging out. Back to work on Monday.
I’ll be running a 5K on Tuesday morning.

I’ll be at a bridge tournament Saturday and Sunday, the ‘Summer of Love’ exhibit at a local art museum Monday and a BBQ on Tuesday. Busier than I normally wish to be but no regrets!

Happy 4th to all!

We are going down to Rhode Island over the weekend when we should be working. So we will work all day Tuesday, but then take a boat cruise in Portland Harbor to get a good view of the fireworks.

Friends just invited us to have a cookout at our lake club on Saturday…so we will. Sunday, nothing. Monday DH works. Tuesday, another cookout at the lake…and hopefully fireworks!

Nothing this weekend (really looking forward to it LOL) and then huddling with my scared pooch for the evening fireworks. :stuck_out_tongue:

My doggie thinks fireworks are the coming apocalypse and she can’t understand why her humans don’t take cover.

Working my moonlighting job. 8 hours at double time!

I envy you folks in Maine and those near water. All your plans sound wonderful.

Fireworks near the water sound glorious in theory but I can’t tell you how many times the 4th is so socked in with fog that you can barely see them. It’s just a distant flash of color in the gray. Very anticlimactic but pretty funny.

Grand finale Maine style

Moving our just graduated D into her new apartment on the East Coast!

Hanging at our family cottage. I plan to eat chips & salsa and drink beer while I lay on the dock. Saturday night, we’ll go out in the boat to get close to the fireworks display over the lake. It will be a rather tension-filled weekend because my MIL is not good with a lot of people in the small cottage (there will be 9) … but she says she wants everyone there. Maybe I will also bring a jug of Costco margaritas.

No plans for the weekend. I think we will go to a relatives boat in the harbor to watch the city fireworks show. We have done this the last few years and the kids and cousins all have fun together. We do potluck. The only bummer is finding parking.
It appears most of you have Monday off. Are your employers giving the day off or are you taking a vacation day?

Turns out I will be eating brisket for the holiday as well. DH and son are brisket fans and a NYC BBQ place is offering it at quite a reasonable price.

Family is coming into town so we can celebrate our parents 50th anniversary.

Absolutely nothing!

@mathmom

What’s the name of the BBQ place? Am always game for raiding a good BBQ establishment.

Blue Smoke. It’s not as good as it was, but their marbled brisket is usually very good. Delaney’s in Brooklyn used to have the best brisket, but sadly it’s out of business. They said they were going to run “Brisketlab” this year, however we haven’t heard anything about it actually happening.

In the city, I still think Dinosaur’s has the best all-round BBQ and a great choice of beers. In Westchester, we just discovered a new place called PikNik. It’s right next to the Tarrytown Music Hall so you can catch a concert after dinner. Their service isn’t great, but the meat and sides are pretty wonderful.
