What are you doing for July 4th weekend?

I just ordered 4 yards of mulch so that is how we are spending the weekend (well H will be doing the mulching while I supervise. )

Having my friend over on the 4th for steaks on the barbie. Her H will be at a conference in Brazil so she invited herself over.

Plus, Wimby starts on Monday so I’ll be doing a lot of tennis watching.

How will I be spending the Fourth? Drugging the dogs and watching TV in the basement.

Sorry to hear that, dmd. Our dog - RIP, dear! - would have been a good police dog. You could fire a cannon next to him, and he would not twitch his ear. He was not deaf. But he was very protective of the airspace above our yard - the hot air balloons and fireworks were trespassers in his opinion.

I think we will walk down to the park after dinner to watch the fireworks and then walk back home
best way to avoid the traffic jams!

Cleaning my house. It’s a mess. Why am I cleaning? Because my college classmate and her H just accepted my invitation to come watch the fireworks in my neighborhood–one of the best places to watch NYC fireworks. Tickets to my local park are free but limited so that we don’t get squashed to death by overcrowding.

I’ve got a lot of cleaning to do between now and Tuesday

No visitors. H and I will be down the shore by ourselves–kayaking, biking, clamming. Getting some work done online. Eating lots of garden veggies (tonight had zoodles with pesto–yay, spyrilizer!) Bike to where the neighborhood ends at the Delaware Bay and watch the fireworks Monday night. Fireworks over the water are one of my favorite-est things in the world.

@garland Sounds like a nice weekend . I need to make some zoodles.

Going to a wedding in Portland, Maine. Lobster was one of the dinner choices! Heading to our vacation place on Sunday (Cape Cod island).

I just saw this on my Facebook feed – too cute!

I don’t know whether I’m ambitious enough to tackle it, though.

Middle of summer here. For the weekend we are having our ac fixed that went out last night. Making some quilts for kids going off to college and not a lot more. Son was going on a trip with his boss but the boss had too many people going and he got cut. He said he really needs the time to get things done here. We have a party to go to Sunday night and that is about it.

@patsmom Cute but I have a feeling there will be a lot of “pinterest fails” with that one this holiday.

@patsmom Too much work. I’d rather eat them raw.

Between the Maine thread and this one, while doing my marketing this morning, had seafood dept steam two lobsters for our dinner tonight.

Picked up some local scallops at the seafood shop to pan fry, along with an even local-er mess of sauteed veggies (from the garden) on the side. Summer cooking is the best!

Work, work and more work with a little sleeping and dog snuggling mixed in

Speaking of pets, please remember everyone that the 5th of July is the busiest day of the year at shelters. More animals runaway on the 4th than any other day of the year.

They have no idea what is going on. Make sure you exercise them, give them plenty of distractions, etc if they’re at all skittish. Also make sure their tags and chips are all up to date.

(Feel free to spread these tips elsewhere. I feel it is my duty as a doggie rescuer to try and make it so that less doggies- and kitties- need rescuing!)

As for me? Well it turns out I have a freaking kidney stone so I’ll be at home snuggling with the dog and enjoying my pain meds

We are picking up our daughter, who lives out of the country, at the airport. Our cookout will be Wednesday night.

We tried to go to the Albany Symphony’s concert on the water last night (part of the Erie Vanal bicentennial celebrations) but by the time we made the 10 minute drive down it started torrential raining. :frowning: So we went for ice cream instead. Got back home where it had only drizzled.

My parents live in a apartment where fireworks can be seen right outside the building; a walk my father can do. As the fireworks were last night, we had dinner brought into their house, and then walked out for the fireworks. Luckily for us, we walked out a bit early as there is a bench and we wanted my parents to be able to sit. The fireworks were to begin at 9:45, but for some reason, they stared at 9:25. Some people were just arriving when they ended and were disappointment. group of 4 couples and their kids had all come right at 9:45 and missed the entire display. The kids were running around with their glow sticks, so while not happy, they still had a good time together.

I thought this was interesting considering how many here posted about their dogs reactions to firework noise:

That is so cool, @doschicos
