Just wanted to thank everyone here for recommending Downton Abbey. I enjoyed it so much I went through all the episodes over the last few days! Can’t wait to watch the next season…

DS and I enjoyed a Korean movie called Castaway on the Moon we stumbled upon. Kind of slow, but sweet and funny (and different–no explosions or anything). When I’m alone I’ve been re-watching old favorite series–NewsRadio, Sports Night, thirtysomething, Fawlty Towers. (Just added Sixty Six and Doc Martin to the queue–thanks!)

Aloha, you can see the first two episodes of the second season of Downton Abbey at the Masterpiece Theatre/PBS web site. Can’t recall the precise location, but if you google it you’ll find it.

Great recommendations! I’m making a list from this thread. Recently, we’ve watched Sherlock and the Swedish Stieg Larsson movies (after seeing the American Girl with a Dragon Tattoo). I am dying to watch Downton Abbey, but my husband isn’t. I’m going to get him earplugs or kick him out of the room.

Another Sherlock fan here.

I’m also working my way through the new Doctor Who and am currently mid-way through season 3. Love David Tennant. (I wasn’t hooked at the end of season one but my daughter made me soldier on and I’m so glad I did. Will probably start all over again when I finish.)

and absolutely yes to White Collar!

Thank you Consolation! I found the website and am enjoying the second season of Downton Abbey. I’m so glad you told me about it!

Hooked on Downton Abbey, so I’m feeding that addiction with more British period series, several from Masterpiece Theater.

On a sick day this week I watched two fantastic 4 part series:
North and South
The Buccaneers.

Started Daniel Deronda last night.

Also want to watch:
Wives and Daughters
The Way We Live Now
Middlemarch.

I’m on a race against the clock, however, because several of these are only available on Netflix streaming until 1/31/12. Not sure why…

We opted to cancel our Netflix today. We had it for a month while both kids home (LOVED the Sherlock episodes), but we didn’t anticipate using it a a lot in future.

For us, the Comcast On Demand is nice. We wait til the next night when show is available without commercials. We like the USA series shows… Parenthood, Royal Pains, White Collar, Necessary Roughness. We also throw in a Red Box movie now and then.

You all need to watch Breaking Bad. The beginning is a little slow but it is probably the most intense show I’ve ever seen. The acting is phenomenal. Don’t be turned off by the premise (meth dealer); it is an incredible show.

I’ve watched all the episodes of 30 Rock. I finished Season 4 before Season 5 came out on Netflix though, so I watched that during a week-long free Hulu subscription. I’m working my way back through that series again- almost done with watching Seasons 2-5. Definitely one of my all-time favorites.

Other shows I’ve seen all episodes of on Netflix: Parks and Recreation, Damages, LOST. All great in their own ways.

Frankly, I’m getting more and more disappointed with the offerings on Netflix streaming these days. Yes, I can watch TV series shows and have really enjoyed that.

But as far as new movies, forget about it. Every weekend we will begin browsing Netflix to see what is new as far as movies, and there is nothing. I think the newest feature film they have out there is Secretariat!

I can get newer features from Redbox and even my local library!

So tell me, why do the film companies have such a stranglehold on how and when people can see their movies? It’s no wonder movie piracy is so big, people want to watch movies in their home AND at the movie theater, and not want to wait until a movie is 6+ months old to finally get it for home. But that’s another thread, isn’t it? :)

DS loves Dr Who. He started a related campus club… with modest school funding too ;)

I’ve been watching Damages for the last few days. Absolutely riveting!

Just discovered Mistresses this weekend. British sexy trashy-ish drama. My new guilty pleasure!

A friend just posted on FAcebook that she found the original Dark Shadows on Netflix. Now I’m going to have to subscribe!

OMG, I will have to check that out. Too funny. 4th grade again, here I come.

I am a Star Trek fan and just finished watching all the episodes of the Voyager series…watched them in the evenings while preparing dinner. Loved it!

The first season of Damages is amazing! I watched the whole series of Arrested Development in a week lol no shame. It’s definitely one of the best comedy series ever. I’v started to watch How I Met Your Mother now.

Oh, and we are almost finished with Mad Men. one to go!

Loved the Voyager series. Janeway my favorite captain since Kirk. Okay, another one to check out. I saw the first season of Damages when it initially aired. Haven’t gotten back to it. Will look for that as well. I have been recommended Mad Men. Have seen a couple of episodes and liked it. Oh, yes, Dark Shadows. Would literally run home from grammar school to make sure to catch it. Loved the remake with Ben Cross and Joanna Goings as well.
