What other buttons besides "Like" and "Helpful"?

Facebook is adding 5 new response buttons to click on in addition to the “Like” button. This got me thinking about what other buttons might be useful to have in the CC forum besides “Like” and “Helpful”.

So, please suggest some useful buttons:

  1. new button name
  2. describe the icon
  3. describe the type of post it would be handy for.

Example:

  1. the “in denial” button
  2. smiling emoticon wearing eyeglasses with rose-colored lenses
  3. when the poster says the family can scrape together/borrow/beg/steal enough money for the 40k gap for the first year of the much, much pricier “dream school”, and then the money will somehow come together for the subsequent 3 years.

Lol button. Then, some polite version of SMH.

A hug button for when you want to indicate support for someone.

I would like a “yet another tall tale” button.

I really want a “hug” button. Really. Really.

I would like a “can we please stop talking about hard boiled eggs” button…

Dislike.
Hugs.
Kudos or good job.

Sorry, I’m not clever enough to design them.

  1. the “STAY CALM” button
  2. something that looks like the “Stay Calm and Carry On” visual we all know
  3. when the freshman or sophomore poster is freaking out about a B- or low score on a Kaplan practice SAT/ACT exam

Maybe change the “like” button to an “upvote” button with an accomapanying “downvote” option (like on reddit). Much more diplomatic than having a “dislike” button.

Need a “LOVE” button for @Pizzagirl’s post. ^:)^

A “What color is the sky in your world?” button for chancing threads.

I prefer mine soft-boiled. And I know just the thingy that makes perfect ones in the microwave!

I agree on the “hug” and “LOVE!” button - sometimes “like” isn’t enough!

I want:

  1. “Quit bragging” button
  2. Would look like an oversized head on a small body
  3. For the person who ALWAYS has the perfect response, perfect kids, perfect home, perfect family…

I want:

  1. “get a life” button
  2. Would look like a emoticon hitchhiking.
  3. For the people who over worry, nit pick their kids/family, etc.

But mostly and truly the “hug” and “LOVE!” button!

  1. "Again?"
  2. A tiny pic of a broken record
  3. For posts that chime in after the exact same point has been made six times already.
  4. "Indoor voice"
  5. A volume dial
  6. For posts that overuse allcaps
  7. "Barf"
  8. Vomiting smiley
  9. A wide variety of applications

^^These are excellent! I would use them all! I am also GUILTY of using caps in parts of my sentences - <<<SEE?!!!

  1. the “Shameless Fishing for Compliments” button
  2. a fishhook with a lollipop skewered on it
  3. use for the poster who quips, "I have terrible GPA/SAT; it’s only 4.99 and 2350…

It seems like we should be able to be helpful with comments, not so judgmental with buttons. If we can’t give a useful comment, perhaps we just scroll by, ignore, rather than judging with a button.

I strongly dislike and downvote the idea of a dislike or downvote button. I’ve never seen a website that uses such buttons that doesn’t quickly become a place where people gladly take advantage of the opportunity to be gratuitously nasty and generally unpleasant.

Aren’t the “chance me” posters asking to be judged?

Many are asking to be judged but they only want to hear that they have a great chance for acceptance, regardless of their stats.
