Where are you applying for film school?

I hope good news soon - he will get an email telling him there has been an update to his portal. It came around 4-5 pm, fwiw.

Thank you for the information. No news yet. They said by the 15th, so we will know soon enough. Wondering if many others have heard and if any rejections have been released.

Oops I forgot of course that NYU ED and Boston University ED are also out now. Congrats to those accepted.

My student did not do ED but perhaps someone lurking here is one and done. Always good when that happens.

Last night my son got into DePaul!!! We are all thrilled. It is my top choice for him and one of his top two. We are so excited. I am 90 percent sure this is the one he will end up at. Super excited!

My D25 also accepted LMU EA for film school. We are a little surprised at the result but very pleased. Now she has choices.

Congrats to the LMU acceptances. GREAT school. My S25 was deferred from LMU to RD. I think he is meant to be at DePaul. I actually just ordered a DePaul sweatshirt that will arrive by Christmas! If he chickens out on an urban campus, he has Ithaca College. He was also accepted at Fordham, Hofstra, Quinnipiac, Temple, St. John’s, Loyola Chicago, and Marymount Manhattan. Still waiting on Chapman and Syracuse. If LMU deferred, I think Chapman will be deny, defer, or waitlist (aka not likely). Syracuse is a slight reach academically, so not sure about that one. Fordham was a nice surprise. So happy for all of our filmmakers!

I thought DePaul gave amazing tours for both campuses. Very impressed.

Thanks, the price tag is really daunting. They give merit aid notice in February, but I don’t think they are known for being generous with aid. We’ll have to really think about it… we have enough saved for in-state college which is about half of LMU’s cost.

But it is by far and away the best film program that S25 applied to. And we all really liked the campus and it is 6 minutes from my sister’s house. And she has an extra bedroom that she has offered up, which would save a lot of money (at the cost of a bit of a social life). We’ll need to do some evaluations once all the decisions are in.

We did the cinespace tour, but didn’t have time to see much else. We flew in and out the same day from the East Coast. We said we would go back if he was accepted and it was a final contender. We plan to go to the admitted student visit in early April, although that seems like a long time from now with all of the excitement. I’d really love to know if he REALLY wants a city campus. It sounds so glamorous but it IS harder. He wants a bigger world, that he will get. He IS an experienced traveler with common sense (and 9 years of karate). He stays calm. He is resourceful. He is good with snow and ice. But it is still a lot for a suburban kid who attended a small Catholic school. I’m open to others’ opinions and experience here. Reassure me?

Daunting yes. I get it. I looked into the ROI a bit, and it seems pretty promising. Chapman has that dedicated career center for film, and higher starting salaries. But in film it is so hit or miss and what the grads want to do, where they will move, etc. If you can swing it, LMU seems to have the perfect balance, especially with your sister so close! I hope he gets lots of options and can choose the best one for him and your family.

Emerson College and University of Texas at Austin will be coming along in a bit for the EA applications.

Emerson has a posted date of 1/15 but they have released earlier in past years.

Anyone waiting on these schools?

Florida State University (FSU) has started sending out their in-person interview requests for film.

Can anyone speak about their own experiences or their child’s experiences with the FSU film interview process?

Got his acceptance to George Mason. This was expected but still exciting because this was initially his first choice due to their Korean program. So we’re in great shape… we’ll tour the schools again this spring to help with the decision.

Pratt EA has been hitting email inboxes. My student did not apply there but good luck to everyone waiting on decisions.

DePaul Honors Program decisions are starting to hit email inboxes.

These are rolling and it is still well ahead of the priority deadline.

They do encourage students to apply within two weeks of DePaul acceptance.

Yes, my son has an application in. I think last year was 12/20 but they didn’t promise them that early.

My daughter is a junior at DePaul (not a film major) and she has loved it since Day 1. We are from California. She spends all her time at the Lincoln Park campus, which I know the film students do not, but LP is a wonderful part of Chicago. Her roommate of three years is a film major, however, and commutes between the two campuses.
