Lots of school spirit helps make up for the cold!!

House of London,

I was awarded the Coronat Scholarship, which entails a full ride for all four years, honors college, them paying for my study abroad, and lots of other really great perks. I plan on majoring in International Relations in CAS. While this scholarship would seal the deal for most people, I’m still not sure what I want to do because I got into a couple of other really great schools (NYU and GW). Do you happen to know how SU’s Int’l Relations program stacks up compared to these schools and the nation as a whole? Thanks so much!

I have the same questions as Bella10, except I’m accepted into Info Studies, so my question is also, would I have a better chance if I simply dual degree? and also, what classes do you suggest I take in info studies, to boost my gpa? thank you!

What kind of information could you give me on Syracuse’ Sport Management program? I have no specific questions other than a job placement rate post-graduation but that would probably be fairly difficult to pinpoint. Just anything you know about the program and its reputation would be great. Thanks.

oh…just realized bella10’s comment was so long ago… anywayz I’m trying to transfer into Newhouse from info studies… what courses would you suggest I take to boost my gpa?

I got into CAS for international relations, but I want to dual major in public relations as well. Would I have to transfer to Newhouse or could I just declare it; If i did have do transfer, let’s say I didn’t get in. Does that mean I can’t do PR and would have to find another major/minor?

Hi, I just got acceptance from SU for engg management. I just wanted to know how are the career services of SU. And is it easy to get a job after graduating from SU.

HoL,

In your opinion, what are the top 5 things about Syracuse, and what are the worst 5?

Interpret this question any way you like :)

The May 1st deadline is just a couple weeks away and I’m completely torn between University of Maryland and Syracuse. I was admitted to the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse and the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at Maryland (and also the Scholars program there). I know Syracuse is extremely cold but it has a great journalism program. On the other hand, Maryland is just around the corner from Washington DC.

Please provide opinions/pros and cons. Any insight is appreciated!!

This may seem like a weird question but do you pay for laundry at Syracuse?

[STORAGE, LINENS, LAUNDRY, AND HOUSEKEEPING](New Student and Family Programs (NSFP) Department Change - Student Experience – Syracuse University)
^Here’s the link to the info you’re looking for regarding laundry.

From the link above:

“Clothes washers and dryers are available in all residence halls and are operated by coin or a PLUS account. The SU Bookstore offers a dry cleaning service, as well.”

Thanks nysmile

Hi, I just deposited my money and it says it’ll take around three days for it to be completed. Will the housing/meal appear on myslice after the deposit’s been finalized?

Do most people have cars? Are they even allowed for freshman? I know that I probably won’t have a car so I was just wondering how hard it is to get around?

Thanks :D!

Freshmen are not allowed to have cars on campus unless for extreme reasons. There are quite a number of students here on campus with cars but not the majority though. And Syracuse, NY is no Manhattan so getting around is relatively easier and finding parking isn’t too much of a pain.

Sounds good. I guess that’ll give me a year to save up.
I also heard that there is a high level of poverty/crime surrounding the university. Is this true and does campus security do a good job keeping students safe?

Funny because a BJ major interviewed me on the very same subject for her class assignment. Yes, the University does an excellent job of keeping students safe through information and tight security (DPS, Campus Police, Blue Lights). When something does happen (bad weather, safety issue), expect to get “orange alerts” via text messages, phone calls, and emails. The information will be from your myslice and they do a great job of making sure you don’t miss anything.

@Blacklugia I was asking myself the same question. My daughters tuition and room deposit was waived and that was on Monday. We haven’t seen any email from the busar’s office regarding that matter.

@HL, can add anything to my situation?

Appreciate any remarks.

Is Syracuse a good party school?

Today, my SU account said my deposit of $850 was successfully received. However, I didn’t receive an e-mail regarding my housing and meal plans. I tried signing into SUmail, but it wouldn’t allow me to. When will I be able to select housing and meal plans? Help!
