@jorge, it will take a couple of days for the next step. Like a week.

on the ReadySET page on the syracuse website it says that in order to start signing up for classes we must first click on: “First Term Enrollment Selections” on MySlice but I don’t see that on my account. When is this going to be on myslice or is there something wrong with my account?

jorge, you don’t select your housing (unless you’re trying to do a learning community) but you do select preferences and a meal plan. Typically you’re required to select 14 meals/per week or over.

@House, how does the meal plan work? I’m inclining to purchase for my daughter the 19-meal plan, but I don’t know if that is too much. With the 19-meal plan, plus the $155 SUpercard Food account, she can use that to eat around campus, right? My Daughter is not use to eating breakfast, she can use the SU Food account to snack during the day, can she?

Yes! 19 meals may be a bit too much for someone who skips breakfast. She would probably be wasting 5 meal swipes in one week, which adds up to a lot of money wasted. Since the dining halls are “all you can eat” style and she is not set to a limit on how much food she can take in one swipe, I would recommend the 14 meals a week plan, which comes with $150.00 Superfood. Your daughter can always add more money herself on myslice to her supercard whenever she wants.

What exactly is a learning community?

Would you recommend a learning community?

@House, how bad is the weather and when does it starts to get cold? We are from the Caribbean, and it will be my D’s first experience with really cold weather. Any advice on that matter? Appreciate it.

I know quite a few students straight from the Caribbean and although the winters can get harsh, there transitions were smooth because they were able to find the right winter apparel. And you can find them here in Syracuse.

Two good jackets (one thick and one lighter), gloves, scarves, and thermals should keep you warm during the winter months.

I got accepted into CAS, but I’m planning to transfer to Newhouse my sophomore year. Newhouse requires you to minor, so I want to minor in EEE. The thing is, I kind of want to dual enroll in Newhouse (graphic design) + Whitman (EEE). Does that mean I don’t need to minor anymore?

on the ReadySET page on the syracuse website it says that in order to start signing up for classes we must first click on: “First Term Enrollment Selections” on MySlice but I don’t see that on my account. When is this going to be on myslice or is there something wrong with my account?

yskyet: there is no major in newhouse called graphic design unless something has changed…usually graphic design is in VPA and the Whitman minor in EEE may or may not qualify as the minor that Newhouse is requiring; it may HAVE to be in arts and sci but that may have changed also…

iceskater: freshman do not sign up for classes on MySlice…you will receive a packet in the mail with all pertinent information

rodney: I thought I was crazy for a second, but [S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications : Graphic Design - Undergraduate - Overview](http://newhouse.syr.edu/Academics/Graphic_Design/Undergraduate/overview.cfm)

VPA is communication design.

Is it still too late to apply for Fall 11 semester for mech eng as a transfer student? I have 2.6 GPA here at community college.

House, I was checking my D’s myslice account and now this shows up on her account:

Arts and Sciences Freshman B-MC RG U

What does that mean? I know she is a freshman in Arts and Sciences -
the other letters I don’t know what it means. Help?

I’m not quite sure. I’ve never seen those letters before. U probably stands for Undergraduate. But I’m not sure of the others. I would call them – specifically Arts & Sciences.

How’s transfer life? (:

House of London,

I’ve been accepted to CAS and I’ve paid my deposit. My problem is that I haven’t received anything yet. The only thing which I got from the university was a post-card of sorts, thanking me for choosing Syracuse University. The reason I’m confused is that I keep hearing abut a Syracuse Welcome Book, which I have yet to receive. I’m not sure when I’m suppose to have it, if I’m suppose to get it, and I’m at a loss as to what to do next. I’ve already sent out all of my housing and meal plan stuff (well before the deadline) and all my emails and such are taken care of, but I have no idea how the rest of the process works. And now I’m even more worried as I received an email saying that I will get another email with details about choosing courses on May 24th.

I got accepted to both!! which one should i choose?? which one has a better academic reputation and cooler people?
