it is torture!!!
So then there’s no wave coming out this Friday then?
Could be. We weren’t expecting that 2nd Nov wave, when there were another 2,500 admitted. We just don’t really know until it happens.
There is much that could be done to make this process less torturous. Another school that releases decisions in batches sends a tweet each week the day after decisions are released to let people know when the next set will be released. This way at least there isn’t this guessing that only serves to feed anxiety. Other schools pick one date in December or January when they release all EA decisions —-and pretty much at the same time, not over the course of 5 hours! You might have to wait longer than you would if you were lucky enough to be in an early wave, but you know exactly when you’ll hear. I like that so much better. Friday night after Friday night I have spent the evening refreshing the OSU portal repeatedly, for naught. This is a broken process that the school could do much to improve. I hope their admission process isn’t reflective of how they function as a university. The school claims transparency, but this process is anything but. Calls to different admissions staff yield different answers about releases. This absolutely should not be the case. I don’t understand how the staff is trained and receives communications from decision-makers. They are doing students—and parents—a disservice. That is all…carry on. lol
This is the best post Ive read so far …it is so accurate. I will say, as a parent of an OSU alum, the university functions quite well otherwise…but this process is absolutely ridiculous!
Oh boy…This is almost exactly my daughters stats, she’s a smidge higher but its not looking good for her, but deferred is not denied so hopefully we will both get good news later. Can I ask what major your son was applying to? My daughter is trying for business.

@yrmomkb from the website: Direct Admission Criteria for Autumn 2020:
Only incoming freshman who matriculate at The Ohio State University-Columbus campus in the autumn semester are eligible for direct admission. Students will automatically be offered direct admission if they have:
Composite ACT score of 30 or SAT total score of 1360 or higher is required.
-OR-
Composite ACT score of 26 or SAT total score of 1230 or higher, AND rank in the top 20% of high school class.
So from the above info can I assume my daughter has a good chance for direct admit to Fisher? She is SAT 1310, UW GPA 3.8 W GPA 4.42 and top 20% rank. Still trying to be patient with admission decisions. She has several acceptances already and we want to visit these schools but waiting on OSU to make a sweep through PA, OH, IN etc
@cek1975 He is OOS.
My son got into MSU as well - come on the flag wrapped acceptance letter wins hands down! I would have picked them off of that alone - lol. If you’re majoring in business by chance check out Poets and Quants - their info will make you feel good about MSU. We are going to check it out mid January - make sure he can take the cold. Still waiting on OSU but not holding our breaths.
D20 got first acceptance from MSU for Broad. She was visiting there for a cousin and we did the accepted students visit in November. Great things are happening there and looking at any of the rankings for their business school it is a top 20 program. Nice people and awesome school spirit. Nice merit aid for OOS like us too. It’s an excellent option, still want to see what OSU says and then compare.
Do we think there will be another wave tomorrow? I know no one really knows, but just looking at the consensus!
@ask625 obviously I have no idea if there will be a release. I tend to think not, but if there is, given the proximity to Hanukkah and Christmas, I’d say if there is, they would only release acceptances. Pure guess since the school is not transparent about this whole process.
Do I assume that if we haven’t been accepted yet, it won’t happen? My daughter is very passionate about this school. She was checking every five minutes last Friday.
@MomfromPenn I can’t say for sure whether there will be a release tomorrow. I’m hoping there will be as well. But it definitely does *not mean that your daughter didn’t get in just because she hasn’t heard yet. There are still lots of acceptances to go.
So I broke down and called Admissions and inquired about any releases tomorrow. The girl who answered said “I do not have access to that information, but historically admission communications are released on Fridays”. So, it’s back to guessing and waiting. ?
I believe someone posted they had called admissions 2 Fridays ago and was told they would release, and it turned out to be just honors decisions that Friday. I’m not sure there’s any way to get an accurate answer. Fingers crossed for another round tomorrow!
My son is OOS from NJ and I’m not too sure about his chances of getting in. He got a 1400 on SAT, has a WGPA of 6.2/7, and has taken maybe 9 AP classes in high school. He’s also worked a few jobs throughout high school and volunteered, so if anyone could help that would be great he’s really nervous that it’s taken so long!
MaxH01, I know how you felt right now, cause. I am also on same boat, My son is in state, 3.67/4unweighed, 3.99/4.25 weighed gpa with 35 act(1530-1560 sat) applied on oct,28.honestly I don’t know how to they decide, but follow collegevine app, your son’s gpa is 26th percent( 1 is lowest, 100 is highest), class ranking top 10% is little over 50%, so not surprised, and Sat is 64th percent, so I don’t know honestly, but I saw lots of people in here has much lower than your son’s stat admitted, so who know, just don’t give up, and don’t panic neither. I am trying not doing that by myself, lol.
Good luck to you and me, too.
@kittyduey how are you estimating her son’s gpa for any kind of comparison purposes? Weighted GPAs mean nothing unless you are comparing kids from the same high school. Some schools give loads of points/weight for AP, DE, Honors, etc., whereas others give very little. It always surprises me when people make comparisons on these threads based on weighted GPAs. It also surprises me that colleges bother to report them. Anyway, good luck to both of your guys! I hope everyone hears back soon.
rbc2018, I completely agree with you GPA mean nothing unless comparing kids from same high school, but unfortunately all colleges and college related app use GPA is one of most important factor for college admit, looks like tosu cares about GPA more seriously, I heard they check GPA then ACT/SAT, since my son’s gpa much lower than act, I hope it is not true, though.
