And, also I didn’t notice that is weighed gpa until you pointed out, sorry that was my bad.
called admissions last night to ask if a wave was being released today they said they don’t have access to that info but they are rolling as of right now, I don’t think this is true because I know people who applied after me who heard back.
What do they mean by rolling?
I think we know very little about what to expect except to NOT expect anything today. I think the post the other day from the parent who summed up how demoralizing this admissions process is was spot on. I will find it and post it again. Im sure Im speaking for all of you out there who are still waiting…the tension in this house is tenable. If OSU had just waited and released all their decisions on one day, even if my S20 had gotten denied, it would’ve been upsetting but over all in one fell swoop. But this week by week process, some kids hearing and some kids not hearing, is a slow torture. There has to be another way!
Here is someone’s post from earlier this week. Forgive me for not finding and quoting the person appropriately…
There is much that could be done to make this process less torturous. Another school that releases decisions in batches sends a tweet each week the day after decisions are released to let people know when the next set will be released. This way at least there isn’t this guessing that only serves to feed anxiety. Other schools pick one date in December or January when they release all EA decisions —-and pretty much at the same time, not over the course of 5 hours! You might have to wait longer than you would if you were lucky enough to be in an early wave, but you know exactly when you’ll hear. I like that so much better. Friday night after Friday night I have spent the evening refreshing the OSU portal repeatedly, for naught. This is a broken process that the school could do much to improve. I hope their admission process isn’t reflective of how they function as a university. The school claims transparency, but this process is anything but. Calls to different admissions staff yield different answers about releases. This absolutely should not be the case. I don’t understand how the staff is trained and receives communications from decision-makers. They are doing students—and parents—a disservice. That is all…carry on. lol
@kittyduey I agree, some colleges seem to weight gpa above all else, which can be a bummer. I would like to see rigor in the number one spot personally.
yes, I totally agree. We are still waiting…each week that passes becomes more and more stressful.
I think that was @Pelorider
Maybe they are taking their cues from that school up north. They have the same torturous release process.
My son is in Fischer, from my understanding, you can only apply to Fischer if you already have a GPA at OSU. So you have to apply after your first semester. That is what my sons counselor told us
I have had two kids get accepted to OSU (waiting on third ones decision). All did early decisions. One heard back the week before Thanksgiving, one heard in Feb. My understanding is that there are 3 major releases, one before Thanksgiving, one Friday before Christmas and one in Feb.
There were definitely 2 in January last year. My D19 was accepted Jan 18th. And then there was another EA release just before the EA deadline Jan 30th.
@aprilvr Actually if you have certain stats they will direct-admit you to Fisher. If you look under ‘domestic freshmen’ in this link and then scroll down a little you can see the criteria. You should send this link to your counselor ![]()

This post is spot on. I have a child that is a Senior at OSU and I can tell you that we have had many challenges with the college, especially with Academic Advisors.
My son got into MSU, and has heard from the other 6 schools all accepted and still nothing from OSU. He has made the decision to go to MSU, they have been impressive through this process and the campus is beautiful.
momtoaandv.I agree totally! Our daughter graduated 1-1/2 years ago and advisory was a very poor experience. We’re still waiting for our youngest daughter’s EA response and it’s very frustrating! They need to alter their process!
I bet they release some acceptances today…
@momtoaandv uh oh, that makes me nervous. What kinds of issues have you had? Maybe you prefer to send a private message? It would be very helpful to get insight from someone with experience.
As far as their process, it almost feels like they go out of their way to make it difficult and anxiety-producing…how can they not know TODAY or even yesterday if there is a release today? That makes no sense. I’m not sure what they think they achieve by keeping people in the dark. Fine if they don’t know or won’t tell if a particular individual will receive their response on a given day, but certainly they should be able to reveal if there will be a release in a given week…during that week!
Actually, I am kind of surprised they can predict at all when a release will be, down to the day. They are clearly operating with a certain number in mind which have completed the process. (As opposed to just sending out the number that happen to be ready). So they are working with a pretty large amount of high stakes data. They are merging data files from many sources (for some colleges within the university, the college weighs In on acceptance to the college). There is a lot that can go wrong and there are quality checks all over the place. They sure don’t want prospects to be accepted erroneously! And then there is the back end…a release always results in a predictable number of questions from accepted/rejected students. They can only handle so many at a time.
My oldest is an OSU grad (Fisher) and he is still in touch with his advisor, who helped throughout college and beyond. That being said, it is an enormous university; basically a city. It has many masters to serve, with its educational, scholarly and public service missions. Scale matters, and when you are THAT big, there are competing priorities pretty much all the time. This was easier when pretty much everyone was accepted. That number goes down every year, making this more complicated every year, too.
Go Bucks!
@cypresspat , yes, it’s absolutely a complex process. All I can tell you is that many large universities pull it off. My daughter has heard from 7 large state schools, all with much less stress, and of the others she’s waiting for, 3 of them gave us the week of the decision. Even one school that was doing releases over time made it much easier by sending out the decisions over the course of an hour instead of 4-5, and when they were done for the day, they told you when the next batch would come out. If they don’t know the day before if decisions will come out, they probably could benefit from learning some best practices. The school may be wonderful, and we all loved it when we visited; this is just one area for improvement. Every person and institution/business has opportunities for growth.
