Admissions Discussion/Decisions - Class of 2024

If anyone receives a decision toady, please post it here. Hopefully they will release all EAs today, so everyone may have a good holiday. But it is just a wish -ugh!!! I agree that this process is a torture, and OSU could do it better, like other schools on a rolling basis.

historically when they did do Friday releases was there a certain time ie: 5:00pm and after? Thanks

Since this is the weekend before Christmas, I believe that they will do it early if there is a release. If nothing happens by 4:00 pm, then no more release this year.

From what I remember it is released around 5-10p. Usually released after their office phones are closed.

seems like no release today, Happy Holiday Everyone

How disappointing. And sorry for anyone who has been refreshing this page too and got excited by the new message :frowning:

Imagine how it was before the internet and early action was a thing, when decisions were only released via snail mail on the same date - nobody knew when it was coming!

Previously accepted, now received acceptance into Honors Program (OOS/NY)

They honestly aren’t doing themselves any favors either. My daughter was extremely interested in their architecture program after visiting and had them in her top two. She’s since been accepted by all four of the other schools she’s considering, including her other top choice. She still hasn’t heard from OSU, so is considering just committing to another school b/c she’d like to have it decided before second semester. They may be losing out on good kids who just don’t have the patience to wait it out…

My S20 has the patience of a gnat. He inherited that from me. But he took the college search unusually seriously for a 17 year old. Gathered endless info on the program details, participation in multi-institution research grants, faculty scholarship. He put more thought into college list development than most, I would dare to say. He became the expert on engineering programs in his high school and I overheard more than one conversation with classmates as he shared details with others. One factor which didn’t make it on the list for consideration, at all, was when he would know where he was accepted.

I am watching kids all around him cope with rejections and deferrals, in the midst of those who had happier news. One is his best friend, who learned of his rejection to tOSU last week, and who is the only one of his core small group of friends who will not be going to tOSU together this coming August. Soon we will hear of those who learn that their aid is not enough for them to afford their first choice; that won’t be fun, either.

Congrats to those who are fortunate enough to choose their colleges based on which acceptances come in first. I don’t see a lot of kids around here in that position.

Not to say this isn’t hard on the families but keep in mind that admission to a selective college is a great privilege and an opportunity that is available only to a very small percentage of young people in our society.

You’re lucky to have schools such as this one, and also fortunate that the admissions people are taking so much time and effort to carefully evaluate you (or your children).

Be grateful for this precious opportunity and have a bit of patience – and respect for the adcom people who are working hard to make the process as fair and thorough as they can.

Merry Christmas,
t

I hear you @thibault. I also know we pay a lot of $$ to go to these universities – and to apply to them. It’s not about having patience…we’re waiting for several other schools very patiently, schools that told us what month or even date we would hear from them. (U of Illinois gave an exact date for their release as did U Maryland, for example.) This is more about the complete lack of transparency and a disinterest in communicating information on the part of OSU. It’s all a matter of managing expectations and a little courtesy. And no one is blaming the admissions counselors…there are people in charge over there who could absolutely adjust their communication practices. Anyway, I don’t want to get into a debate on this. Everyone is entitled to their own perspective.
Merry xmas and happy Chanukah.

tOSU states very clearly by which date all EA applicants will receive their decision. Some just happen to hear before then. There is nothing for them to be transparent about, as they do not commit to doing anything other than their published date. If that date is unacceptable, then choose another school to apply to. If it is acceptable but inconvenient, then focus on the reasons you chose to apply despite the inconvenience. If those reasons have changed, notify tOSU you no longer wish to be considered.

Next round Of decisions Jan 3?

@cowboylover49 Tough to know. Depends on a lot of factors. I am guessing no; the following week. Hope I am wrong!

@cypresspat I think people are frustrated with the process, and those points are valid. Every school has things they do well and things they could do better. It’s not necessarily a dealbreaker for applicants just because they are expressing it on this forum.
(Also, there are plenty of schools who notify later than January, but they are up front about the exact date of decisions, and I’m not seeing as much frustration on those threads)

I agree @rbc2018. We came in knowing the decisions would be released at the end of January. But when they are releasing some in November some in December, some early January without relationship to school or major, it causes added stress onto an already stressful situation.

Isn’t this how rolling admission typically works?

@rbc2018 tOSU is very upfront with its process. EA applicants are notified by Jan 31. Some get notified earlier. Good for them. None of this is secret. One should not be frustrated or angry because you were not one of the lucky ones. Nor should you expect every person connected to admissions or enrollment to know all info about releases. That info is not shared widely and personnel in a huge institution hear ‘rumors’ and try to be helpful.

The final date of the notification is all over their website. If you weren’t willing to wait that long, then tOSU is not a good choice for you. I see many posting frustration here are showing similar impatience with other schools. Not all of them are going to march to your drummer.

Every school has its own process and circumstances to deal with. If having to wait longer than you hoped for a decision, or longer than another student you’ve decided is less worthy, is the worst thing to happen to you in this process, then you’re doing pretty good in the college game. Many would cut off an arm to be in your shoes.

@cypresspat No reason to direct all of that at me, I have not expressed anger or frustration or whatever toward your school or suggested anyone was ‘less worthy’ or any of those other things you stated. I was merely offering an explanation as to why others might be expressing frustration. You don’t know my personal feelings on any of it, or what ‘shoes’ I’m in, so there’s no reason to aim any of that my way.
