Applying to the College Class of 2017 (Starting College in the Fall of 2013)

@ Oldfashioned- Haha!! Anyways, Best of luck to you!!

@duresham3 Hey! I am glad you sent your CSS and yes i agree with you. Literally i sent ISFAA instead of CSS to 17 of my Universities and 2 others gave me CSS waiver code. All unis accept ISFAA lieu of CSS (Maybe couple of colleges not)

@JerrySeinfeld Thanks bro but i hope if i got in US then i will probably ditch HKU :P

Don’t slack off!
I came out with good A level grades on paper in the end but majorly lacking in some of the topics taught (…'coz senioritis and college apps.). You will most likely get credit for A levels subjects (some US unis give out SO much credits, mine doesn’t-it only gives the bare minimum, also advice for later, if they don’t give you credit for A levels, fight for them-if they give AP ad IB credit- because they want you to take more classes and pay them more, esp as internationals), and you will be stuck in a higher level class wondering what the hell is going on LOL.

Also, the college apps process, as messy and horrible as it feels right now, you learn so much from it that is going to be extremely useful later. The whole process of emailing and asking questions (who what why how when where) really prepared me for right now-where pretty much the main mode of communication is email. Also, you get to learn a lot of time management and planning skills. US universities (at least the competitive ones at least) will expect you to be extremely self reliant. International high schools sometimes pamper you, but here they pretty much expect to deal with everything on your own. They will hand you a syllabus at the beginning of the semester with all the dates on them and will not remind you of homeworks and papers etc. at all. You also get to see a slice of the American education system.

Once this season is over, you will have grown significantly :)

Sorry for the long post, and good luck for decisions. Only 2 weeks left now?

@BlueLovexD Thanks for sharing this. It really made me feel high  and I guess most decisions will be out on last week of March (OMG this thread will be on fire that weekend)

@oldfashioned exactly 2 months to go now. Lets get cracking! :D

@ahtesham they do? :open_mouth: wow! I wonder why I wasted so much money and time on the CSS Profile -_- but well every time I come across this kind of information I always think ‘Oh well. At least my brother won’t have to go through the same nonsense.’ :D

@bluelovexD thank you so much for the encouragement! makes me feel slightly better now. But I have wasted SOOOOOO much time on the college application process I don’t remember the last time i touched my A Level books :frowning: but oh well that means I should get down to it now instead of whining. :P

I read somewhere that the big day is 28th March this year. And if I’m not wrong, the Ivy League has a common notification date, with decisions from places like Duke, Stanford, UChicago (All effectively Ivy League Universities in all but name) come out a couple of days before or after the Ivy notification. LAC’s should be scattered around 15th March- 1st April. I suppose the first major university to notify will be MIT. 14th March is usually their decision date. Exactly a fortnight left

Yep the dates for most ivies are 28th March and for MIT I think its 15 March. Most LACS decision would be coming out on 1 st of April. I have school mock starting from 11th March and I don’t I would be able to study in such excited state. Best of luck everyone.

@durresham3 Yes, save it for your siblings guys
@PakiRootsian As i haven’t applied to a single Ivy so my first decision will be out on 23rd i guess of Middlebury. Lets just keep hopes up and pray and man please also add Roots I-9 acceptances. I know you got a lot

Thanks @bluelove and everyone else :)

BY THE WAY, i found an interesting article here on CC, its got nothing to do with the discussion at hand, but its a fun read anyways:

[Most spoiled college campuses in America](http://now.msn.com/most-spoiled-college-campuses-in-america)

Hi! I’m going to give my CIE O Levels this May and am looking for advice regarding a good school for A Levels in Islamabad which will help me in applying to foreign universities. Are there any Roots I-9 or DHA students here who can tell me about their institute’s academics and university counselling?

@Asad876 Hey! I am from Roots DHA 1 and yes its good for USA counseling and stuff. But It is competitive school so you won’t even be happy if got a 4As A Level and 2200 SAT score coz there is always a person above you lolz (just saying no offense) But the sole problem is Roots is notorious for making fake Transcripts with all A Grades even if you have Cs  Good Luck

@ahtesham referring to your post above, how much do transcripts really matter? And don’t all schools change transcripts? My school changed 2 grades for me as well. But they were just B’s to A’s. The admin say it help out good students like this only. And I have talked to a few other students from other schools who say that it’s pretty common in their school. I know its kinda not right but then don’t all schools do that?

@duresham3 and @ahtesham I don’t know if you want to say that on a public forum. Also, KGS definitely does not do that. Maybe that’s why we haven’t been doing that well admissions wise? :/

Got into University of Michigan, Ann Arbor yesterday!

@duresham3 It is good if you change couple of Bs to A but it is way crazy if you change Ds to A* (If you know what i mean) and yes Transcripts matters alot and not all school’s do it. I can name LGS, KGS, and Roots I-9… don’t about rest

@BluelovexD I agree with you and IMO KGS is best school of Pak. I will definately attend it if i live in Karachi but still Roots isn’t a bad option either

Thanks for replying. How are the teachers at Roots DHA and does its notoriety for fake transcripts adversely affect my chances of getting into a good university here in Pakistan?

@Princeton2017 Congrats!! XD
(and yes, KGS is the best school of Pakistan  )

Please people, stop lulling yourselves into your comfort sleeps. The question isn’t whether everyone else is doing it or not, the question is if your getting your hands dirty in such a thing or not. An escape route to the U.S for university isn’t going to be the make-it or break-it factor of your lives, so stop selling your souls over it.
