Yes I agree, I think that is the number
So this is how it worked in 2024 for my son- He paid the housing deposit, filled out the application and ranked the dorms (useless really because on actual housing select days the student picks whatever room is available- they really only use the ranking thing if your kid somehow does not select a room). Then in March he received a date and times lot for room selection- thIS IS VERY MUCH A LOTTERY SYSTEM. I know people who had early application dates and got a late room selection slot. Anyway, the kids can start networking NOW to find a roommate. I should warn that the larger the roommate group, the less likely to find a spot. I would find ONE person they want to room with so they can look for two open spots. The person with the better date is the one who logs in and selects the rooms- they will add the other person and select their room for them. My son found someone to room with and his roommate had a much better date so his mom actually was the one who logged in at the time of selection and added both my son and her son t o their room. It is stressful- I likened it at the time to getting Taylor Swift tickets on Tickemaster the day they dropped- I wish I were kidding. BUT there is a LOT of movement. People pay the deposit and select a room and their plans change- they decide to go someplace else, or move off campus or whatever. There were a lot of people freaking out who did end up still finding a spot. Take ANY open room and then refresh over and over to find something else.
Same exactly for my daughter!
So IF we get housing, when will we know for sure that it is guaranteed? Not until March? Just trying to gauge when we should look for apartments as a backup plan. If an apartment is needed because we donât get a dorm, should we be working on a lease plan now? Good grief all these moving parts are stressful!
So this is why there is so much movement- people end up signing leases due to the uncertainty of securing on campus housing and then withdraw from housing selection (or try to find someone to take over the lease). I think it is safe to say if your kid is accepted in the first round they will get housing. Room selection is in the spring- I think my sonâs slot was either end of April or end of March- I canât remember anymore because his intended roommate got a much better slot so he was the one who did the actual room selection and then pulled my son in, if my son had done it I would have remembered the date.
I recommend that anyone who wants housing get familiar with the dorms because when it is time to make the actual room selection you have to jump on it and that will not be the time to start looking up different floorpans, etc. Do the research NOW so when itâs time you have a list of preference and work your way down the list based on whatâs available.
How does my child get a time slot? She was accepted, but hasnât enrolled. She just activated her Auburn User Account and listed her home email to be notified of emails along with the Auburn email. How does she check her Auburn emails? Thanks! We canât find what is missing or if she needs to let her activated account process first.
She needs to activate the Auburn email- there is a process and it takes a bit of time. My husband helped my daughter with the process, including the duo-factor which they need to do. She can call admissions and ask- they are helpful too.
She activated it, hasnât set up Duo Factor yet. Checked the housing page and found her appointment is Nov 12. So, all set there. Now, to research dorms!!! Thank you!
My son loved living in the Quad- super convenient to everything. The Village in nice b/c they get their own room but it is a long walk when it is hot/raining. Convenient during sorority recruitment though if she plans on that. The Hill is considered the âworstâ but everyone who has lived there says the experience boded them together and they are glad they lived there. There are off campus apartments that are closer than some of the dorms, just so you know. Also something to think about is the schedules of the dorms- some are always open, even during breaks (South Donahue, 161, etc.). Others close so you need to pay attention to that in terms of travel booking if you live a flight away. All the info is on the housing website. You can also post on the Auburn Parents page in Facebook and ask opinions about the dorms- pros/cons, etc.
This is great, thanks! So much information out there.
Isnât the lottery portion of it just for the part where they fill out the form next week? Then you are âtimestampedâ based on when you submitted that, and that determines you timeslot in March, right? Thatâs that the housing tour guides were saying when we visted last week. They said some kids never check the auburn email and donât even realize that they had to fill out the initial form and then get a late selection slot even though they got in EA1. But if you do everything on time and are EA1, you should get a good selection slot in March. Is that right or am I misunderstanding?
Well, my son (2024) did everything the earliest possible and still got a slot to select very late and when I asked I was told it was a lottery and not based on any type of timing of deposit which honestly I feel is unfair. The process this year already feels different from 2 years ago so hopefully you are correct and this is the new process. I mean getting admitted early should come with perks IMHO.
That stinks for your son. When we were there on each housing tour, we did the tour guides kept stressing the importance of filling out the form next week as quickly as possible so that you are âtime stampedâ. In fact,we heard that word so many times that day, that it made me think they were trained to say that specifically. They pushed very, very hard about the thing next week, so it does make me think that thereâs some benefit too paying the deposit as soon as you have access for the sake of getting a good spot. ![]()
Are kids receiving an email about the housing spot or via portal? My kiddo was accepted ED1 and I donât see anything about housing in her email or portal. Should I call Auburn at this point?
Did she set up her Auburn email account? Thatâs were all important information goes now. Not to the portal or her personal email. Go into the portal and follow ânext stepsâ. One of them sets up security and email.
Thank you! I doubt that she did. I will have her set up today. Every school is so different. Hard to keep track
Thanks! We didnât get an email and this seems to be the part that was missing!
We activated (but is not showing as activated yet). How long does that take generally? She has not completed the duo factor yet. Where did you find the appointment?
Hi again
. So you have to have your priority list ready whenever appointment is?
You have to do the duo process to get into the email. Once you get to the email you will see the sign up time as an email from Housing
