My daughter has great grades but chose not to submit test scores because they were just mediocre! Who knows what will happen! Good luck to all still waiting!
The admissions process is perfectly fair at every school the kid gets into. Completely unfair at every school that generates a rejection.
Yes, for any University such as Auburn that takes a completely quantitative approach, SAT/ACT almost becomes mandatory. For those that have a more holistic approach where the SAT/ACT might be optional the applicants never know how much that piece of the puzzle makes up in the decision.
Thatās awesome! My student was also deferred (OOS), and have been told decisions arenāt coming out until early March. So just curious of the one off admittances, anyone know how some are trickling out?
Unrelated but another random ques for anyone familiar - what is greek/nightlife like at Auburn? Pls ignore if this question is not allowed or send me a PM to take offline!! Greatly appreciated.
Good luck to all of us still hanging in limbo
It seems to me that if you were deferred and have updated scores that are improved and over 29/1300 some are receiving admittance.
My son asked how important Greek life is on campus when he toured and I feel like it was not emphasized as a huge Greek life as much as other schools like Ole Miss.
Son just spent last weekend at Auburn and met up with guys from a couple different fraternities. About 25% of the students participate in Greek life- so it isnāt overwhelming but still a thing. He really enjoyed what he head and wants to rush next year. It sound like there are plenty of people who do not participate and have a great time there- lots of bars, restaurants to walk to off campus.
Thank you, so helpful. Mine is definitely interested in rushing. We werenāt sure if it is more of a frat party scene or a bar scene in terms of going out on weekends.
Iām sure it depends on who you ask, but I would say Greek life is a pretty big deal at AU. Definitely plenty of opportunities to āfind your placeā if youāre not, but it is a big part of social life. There are always frat parties going on, but the bars downtown stay busy too. My daughter rushed and joined this year, and sheās met most of her new friends through the sorority in one way or another.
PM me if you have any questions! Not sure if you have a girl or a boy, but rush is VERY different for each, and sorority rush is no joke
I agree with sorority and fraternity rush being very different. Fraternity rush is less organized and more laid back which means it is probably less stress but can be harder to navigate.
Bar scene is lively so itās not just Greek parties like some more rural schools. But it is a great way to meet people if going there knowing nobody.
There are tons of clubs and activities besides Greek life. A ton. Your child has to make the effort though to find the right one and get engaged.
Donāt want to hijack this thread so if there are any out of state parents who think their sons are interested in rushing just message me. As an OOS family with no contacts at Auburn it was tough to navigate, but in the end worked out for the best and my son loves his house and has met a lot of great friends. Good luck.
OOS parent with a son interested in Greek life. Any pointers you have about rush would be very appreciated.
Same here, any advice would be appreciated. My S24 is from Alpharetta, GA
My daughter sent in her application before Sept 15 and was deferred. Her mid year transcript was sent in yesterday. Any idea when we might get a decision. We are OOS. thank you.
Same here. Did you turn In Test scores?
Yes
My daughter didnt test so thinking we wont have decisiion until early March
Here is what we learned about the rush process. We are from OOS (Northeast) and S24 was accepted for fall. He just spent a weekend there last weekend and he met up with a current freshman who is from the Northeast as well.
The main information to be aware of is that rush for fall really begins late spring. S24 was told to follow all the frats he might be interested in on social media. As late spring rolls around the frats will post summer meet-ups and what events they are hosting for potential new members to attend. Yes, they strongly recommend that you try to attend at least one or two of their summer events. Many bids are given after these events in the summer. Some of the larger frats give out the majority of their bid at those summer events. If your son gets offered a bid and accepts at a summer event he then does not need to continue to attend anymore summer events.
I was very surprised that this means S24 will likely be traveling down to Auburn sometime in June and sometime in July for fraternity events. But it sounds like that is what he will need to do. It is not ideal for us OOS people who live far and flying is the only option. But it is what it is.
If any current frat parents want to add to my post please do. This is from a current freshman who is in one of the larger frats on campus at Auburn, so this is all based on what he was told.
how do people handle OOS summer visits with kids too young to rent cars? hotels? Iām trying to understand logistics. Are parents joining their kids on these trips (not to the frat events, just to Auburn)? This feels like a strange approach to rushing pre-freshman year.
Wow this is all so helpful! I have a daughter so would also love perspective from any parents with girls and sororityās! Thank you
The info coastals son got is pretty accurate. I really donāt want to hijack this thread so if any has questions please direct message me and I will do my best to answer candidly.
But real quick:
Yes rush process starts in spring with event dates posted for each house (usually on the house Instagram account)
The larger fraternities will give out 90%-95% of their bids by early July.
You will probably need to visit twice to try and get a bid from a larger house. (We know one who went once and got a bid night one and another who went three times and got no bid)
The medium size houses will give out 50%-75% of bids by late July. Depends on the house.
Last year was a record rush in terms of numbers. Offical report should be posted on Auburn website soon.
There are also two houses that came back this year which were suspended for two years so they will be looking for numbers to fill house back up.
If your son is open minded and does his best to get around and meet different guys at different houses most of the time they end up in the right place. They will know.
If you canāt get down donāt panic. There are many solid houses with great kids giving our bids throughout august when they move in.
Good luck
Iām planning on going down with him at least for one of them- hoping it coincides with CWE so he would do frat activities on weekend and CWE either Th/F or M/T before/after. I am lucky b/c I do not work in summer (I work at a school) so I have the flexibility to go down with him.
being from CA, we will not be going back in the summer unfortunatelyā¦
