You’re absolutely right. We will know soon enough.
Was this after he was deferred?
Thanks!
For those of you who applied EA1 this year, is the Auburn application (not Common App) still just asking for basic demographic info, official test scores and an uploaded transcript?
Yes, it was.
My son’s GPA just showed up and it seems completely wrong. He’s earned all A’s in high school so far and it’s showing as 3.81. Anyone else have this happen?
My daughter’s appears incorrect as well. Was his transcript on a 100-point scale before? The only explanation I could come up with was that they used a decimal, not integer scale, i.e. a 92 would have converted to a 3.5 for example, not 4.
Anyone else with a a school that reports on a 100 point scale that has GPA reported willing to share a comparison? We called and asked. Rep explained they take the cumulative GPA reported on transcript and convert that to a 4.0. So, even though he earned an A in all classes, it’s based on the actual score, 90, 93, 97, etc… It’s not like UGA that recalculates by individual grades where every A is worth 4 points. This is disappointing and I’m afraid it will hurt him. The girl on the phone was very nice and said he’s still in range, but I don’t see how that is comparing all students equally. All we can do is wait and see.
We do a 100 point scale and my daughters portal gpa is a 4.4
Strannik Rep said they convert the cumulative GPA reported on the transcript to a 4.0. So an A is not 4 points (like UGA). My son didn’t earn any perfect 100s. I personally don’t see how this is comparing students equally. A friend from another school nearby that reports on 4.0 (similar grades) has a GPA over 4.3.
So on a 100 point scale in high school, how would one earn a 4.0 Auburn GPA? Surely they wouldn’t have to have perfect 100’s in every class. What is considered a 4.0 - 97 and up? 95 and up? Something else?
Did your daughter earn perfect 100s for most classes? Just trying to understand. Thanks.
We are on a 100 pt scale. My sons weighted GPA on his transcript is a 97.2241. If using the divide by 25 method his 4 pt would be 3.89. Auburn just updated his gpa this afternoon and it is showing 4.05. I believe the difference is the weight they give the Dual Enrollment and Honors. At our high school DE/ Honors is only a .5 modifier. If Auburn does DE at 1 pt and nothing for Honors, this might be where we benefited? Just our example if you wanted to see another calculation.
*look at multiplying the grade by the modifier. for example AP Stats Report Card= 96 *1.10= 105.6. Do this for all the classes and then covert to the 4pt scale?? that would provide the weighted difference.
It is not comparing students equally, I agree. Sounds like they only recalculate if the transcript is not on a 4-point scale already. So applicants with transcripts on a 4-point scale where A’s are worth an integer 4 would be implicitly at an advantage.
Our daughters was on a 4 point scale and they reflected exactly what the weight GPA was on her transcript
On her HS transcripts she has a 97 unweighted
My son’s school reports on a 100-point scale.
His official GPA is a 100.08, which the school has converted to 4.46 for schools that use a 4.0 system. They give 10 points for AP/IB/DE, no weight for honors.
His transcript shows weighted 100-point grades for each class (instead of letter grades), so most of his grades (11 total, 9 core) are listed as over 100.
His Auburn GPA was calculated at a 4.45.
That seems to match with them converting those numerical grades with the weighted 4-point scale (non-core classes).
So it seems if they had a numerical grade to work with, they did the quality point conversion themselves?
This is kind of crazy. They really need to let people know exactly how this number is calculated. I do not understand how a student with all A’s (as some of you have posted) has below a 4.0.
This is the 4.0 scale at my daughter’s school. You can see, if you don’t have at least a 97%, you do not get 4 points. 90 which is considered an A at many schools would only receive 3.5 pts. So that is how you can have straight A’s and have less than a 4.0. I’m assuming maybe this is how Auburn recalculates GPA? Then honors classes are given an extra .5 on top of the base gpa shown below, and AP/DE are given an extra 1 pt.
97-100 4.00
93-96 3.75
90-92 3.50
87-89 3.25
83-86 3.00
80-82 2.70
77-79 2.35
73-76 2.00
70-72 1.70
67-69 1.35
65-66 1.00
The way I see it is… If a student had all A’s in the Core Classes, say 90 average- the GPA would be ~3.6. If the cumulative average was a 93, a ~3.72. So technically a student could have all A’s and depending on the weight of the grade (course modifier) the 4 pt would be 3.6 or higher.
Thank you! I have definitely learned some things today!
