Parent here…having a very hard time figuring out where to find any financial aid numbers. It says in the offer letter to check there but I just can’t find it. We are in-state and were offered merit but no amount. I just need to see what we are looking at vs other OOS schools she was accepted at. Thanks for the help!

@UpstateSCmom have you tried the Net Price Calculator linked to/and using the College Board individual family EFC financial data?

When I did that it gave me a pretty good indicator based on IS or OOS for the specific schools. UofSC looked to align itself where I thought merit might fall now that they have updated 2020-2021 tuition numbers. When we used it it gave a number that lined up to the portal letter.

In light of the actual numbers not coming until Feb/March, this is the best our family has to plan our financial landscape for each school.

@PAdude CONGRATS! I thought Harvard EA was restrictive so you can’t apply to Harvard EA and any other school EA? Maybe I am mistaken?

My D is OOS (GPA - 4.2; SAT - 1430) and in her acceptance letter in the second paragraph they offered in-state tuition and scholarship aid in the amount of at least $85,000 over four years. If I am reading it correctly, UofSC has specific merit based aid/scholarships for out of state students with different levels based on grades and test scores (https://sc.edu/about/offices_and_divisions/undergraduate_admissions/tuition_scholarships/scholarships/index.php) that are not necessarily available for in-state students, so it may be hard to compare and they may handle in-state differently in terms of when and how much is offered. I’m definitely not an expert at how they offer aid and empathize with the challenges of comparing across schools as we are doing the same thing…

Good luck to everyone with applications and navigating all of the offers!

@PAdude I just remembered that restrictive EA only applies to private school EA:-). COngrats on Harvard admission:-)

I am a Junior and looking at University of South Carolina and was wondering what my chances are so far with these stats since I keep seeing everyone with like 4s getting in with scholarships.

3.72 GPA
24 ACT (Taken once)
Mulitple ECS and Service
Competitive Private High School

@TwoFabKids , yes EA Harvard applies only to other private institutions. Was able to apply and be accepted to Pitt, Penn State and Temple this far. Pitt has been the most comprehensive merit thus far offering full tuition. I really like South Carolina and although Harvard is great opportunity if I’m blessed enough to be chosen for one of the full Top Scholars merit awards I’m certain my choice would be South Carolina. Will keep fingers crossed!!

Is the $200 enrollment deposit binding?

I got in on Friday applying as undecided - OOS (NY) 94UW GPA, 97W, 33 ACT. Awarded the in-state tuition reduction (85k over 4 years) plus opportunity for more. Hopefully I’ll get the $2000 per year on top of that but I am very happy with the in-state reduction. If I get into the Honors College I will most likely be attending

@PAdude That’s a great offer from Pitt. Congrats!!

For all of those who did not get any merit included in their offers, I confirmed with an admissions counselor today that there will be final awards given in mid-March (as most people confirmed on this board).

So do not give up on hope just yet if you did not receive anything so far.

I can’t recall offhand but I think it was fairly quick. She received notice of acceptance for SoM and, in that acceptance, it listed she was a candidate for a scholarship. They awarded the scholarship once all the audition dates had passed. It has definitely helped, in conjunction with her academic scholarships.

UofSC was initially NOT her first choice simply because of the size of the school. We are instate and she was actively pursued by a music program at another school. Her original top choice basically indicated since she qualified for a large amount of academic merit aid, they felt they should use their music money towards someone that didn’t get a large amount of merit aid. That, combined with the fact that her current Voice Prof took the time to reach out to her personally asking her to consider scheduling a trial lesson and a visit to some of the music classes with her to see if they were a good fit boosted UofSC for her. She visited, loved it, and hasn’t looked back! Living in Woodrow has helped and she is definitely not just a number over at the School of Music. Her boyfriend is in the marching band (Music Education Major). Many of her friends are in the band or are voice majors.

You will get the offer at a later time. My in-state Gamecock got her acceptance. Then got an initial scholarship offer in the late winter. Then, once her Palmetto Fellows was certifies in the early spring she got an amended offer as there are scholarships that are awarded automatically to Palmetto Fellows recipients. UofSC does not stack offers so her lower offer was replaced with the offer she finally accepted.

You can get a cursory idea by looking at the page I linked below. It will have average stats from the Admitted Class of 2023.

https://sc.edu/about/offices_and_divisions/financial_aid/scholarships/scholarships_for_sc_residents/index.php

thank you! I appreciate it. I had looked there and she will also be a Palmetto Fellow, which means and additional 3K for sure, I was told. However, to be honest I was hoping for more since I feel like they should try a little harder to keep their top SC students in state and give them an incentive to stay. But it looks like they give a lot of money to OOS and there is not much left for the rest. Her grades and test scores definitely put her up there but who knows.

It really hard to say. My son has a 4.3 and a 27 ACT from a competitive high school in SC. It is a STEM school. He was deferred. He is the captain of Varsity HS Golf Team. Honor Society, Beta Club, USC summer programs, etc…
I did notice that my son’s ACT score isn’t as high as most of the other scores I read. That good be the main reason. We don’t have legendary status and he will be a first-generation college student in our family. Also, due to military benefits he doesn’t have to pay tuition or (tuition waiver) at any the S.C. public universities. So, this is our situation for EA. We are just hoping for February.

Daughter accepted. OOS. NY. 3.7 UW, ACT 30. Congrats to all!

Has anyone received their acceptance packet yet?

@HappyNJ I called and asked the same thing and got the same answer - do not despair there is still hope in March for Merit!!
@Abceefarg no we have not gotten our package yet only the email saying it is coming and Admissions says yes it will soon be on its way per my phone call with them,
